So, the above cards I'm having trouble with. I know they are both 1998 Collector's Edge Masters 50-point cards. The card on the left in each pic is your run-of-the-mill 50-Point card numbered to /3000. My question is what the one on the right is? No serial number. I've looked on Beckett and TCDB for something similar and can't seem to find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well... you can try and find out for me but the card is gone. I was STUPID enough to think it had a protective film on it and proceeded to peel it off. Well, it peeled off all the rainbow effect from the "border" and was obviously NOT a protective film like Finest, but some of the top layer of the card peeling at the corner. Good god sometimes I wish I could just let things be, but I wanted to see the card without the protective film. Jeez-us!! (sorry)
Don't spend too much effort looking for the answer because it really doesn't matter now. SO PISSED AT MYSELF!!

I'd always err on the side of caution on cards like Finest and similar issues. No need to alter a card since it is easy to alter but IMPOSSIBLE to put back in its original form. Let someone else alter those cards and let them deal with any downside.

I bought a 1996-97 Finest Kobe RC at a garage sale for $1 from a big collector that was just dumping his collection. I got home and noticed the protective coating was gone! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Well it was just a dollar so no biggie. Luckily I had one with the coating intact already but gosh darn! I've heard mixed opinions on what it is worth. I need to find this card (probably it is hiding with your Ronnie Lott RC! LOL) and see if I can move it.

I've had similar goofs in the past, but this one really ticked me off because I should know by now!! Hopefully it's not some Rainbow 1/1 or something! It's in the garbage now anyways cuz it's worthless. I've lost nicer cards in the past, but this one I liked alot cuz it was rare (maybe) and of my favorite player!
I gotta start hitting up garage sales!

There are many inexpensive ways to buy cards since there are many, many more sellers than buyers. Plus, I always remember they are just cards and not a necessity, a can't lose philosophy that has served me well through the decades and prevented my wallet from being emptied out on a continuos basis. LOL

Here is a completely shocking alteration of cards that I never would have thought about. If a card is placed in a screw down holder and the screws are tightened too much the card may be made thinner and grading services will consider it altered!! WT$???? Since screw downs were standard for decades and decades we have no idea if older raw cards suffered this fate!! This especially holds true for the older oversized issues that screw downs were almost always used for. That makes me very leery about sending cards in for grading as I have no idea if this may have happened to any of them.

Thinner cards? And there is no way for us to determine if that has occured.

U talking about the old screw downs made of lucite with a screw on each corner with no gap between?
If someone could tell me what the Irvin card is I may be able to find one, but for now it's gone the way of the Dodo...

Those are the ones. They were used since cards became a thing in the early 1980s so most every oversized cards offered at card shows or card shops would be in one. Which ones were screwed down too tightly? We have no way of knowing.

Could it be this one without the serial number?

That looks like a Gold without a ser. number. but Golds are numbered to /500 (at least the redemptions are concerned) I think you would be able to make out more of the colors in the pic... it looks like a low grade refractor.

Here is what you are looking for and dirt cheap to boot. The seller has already discounted it %20 due to lack of interest. Maybe you know someone who could buy this for you sine I think you are like me and don't buy online.............yes I am an admitte pansy when it comes to buying online.

That's the Gold redemption... I have one of those, but thanks for looking it up for me!

I have some weird ROd Smith and Jake Plummer CE cards that I can't work out exactly what they were. That company crapped out so much garbage in its short lifespan that I don't really even try. I'm just glad they didn't last

Lol agreed!! I try to stay away from Edge cards all together... they did put out an auto set in '96 I think and I have a Len Dawson on card auto that's one of my faves.
But this rainbow card just had me stumped! It has to be some kind of redemption. It's gone now so it really doesn't matter, I just wanna know what the hell it is!!

Edge and fleer autos games used and serial numbered cards that lack serial numbers were replacement cards.if someone had a damaged one fleer would stamp the new card with your old serial number and send it back all these replacement cards were released to the public when they went bankrupt they just sold off inventory that was in the factory to recoup their debt so many of these replacement cards have made it out into the public even precious metal gems replacement cards have found there way out there and people are still being crazy prices for them
