Is a Topps Rookie Debut (RD) considered a real rookie card? I have never really been sure if it is considered a real rookie card even though it contains the Rookie Card logo designator. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

this is what I found:

A Topps Rookie Debut (RD) card is not considered a "true" rookie card (RC) by most collectors, despite having the Rookie Card (RC) logo on it. The main reason is that Rookie Debut cards are typically part of Topps Update or other special sets and are seen as subsets rather than base rookie cards.

Key Differences:

  • A true rookie card is from the main flagship set (Topps Series 1 or Series 2) or other licensed base sets and is typically the player's first base card with the RC designation.
  • A Rookie Debut (RD) card highlights a player's first game or key early performance and is considered an insert or subset card rather than a flagship rookie.

Collector Sentiment:

  • Most collectors prioritize a player's base rookie card over the Rookie Debut version.
  • Rookie Debut cards still hold value, but they usually aren’t as desirable as the main RC.
In short, while it carries the RC logo, a Topps Rookie Debut card is not considered a "true" rookie card in the hobby.
