Recently I traded for some low end jsy cards. Each one got damaged during shipment. When I brought it to the traders attention they were very apologetic and told me to just keep the cards. I can't trade or sell them so I decided to do a little investigating... about a year ago a Brandon Jacobs patch card was also damaged on arrival and I got curious... I gently removed the 2 color patch from the card. All it is is a square of strong double sided tape. The bottom (stuck to the card) was interesting. It had numbers, the New York Giants, and his name printed on on it. I can only assume this was to make sure the proper swatch went on the correct card.
I did the same thing to the jersey cards... this is what was printed on the bottom:

I'm no expert, but it seems the card company was using the same jersey (or just a roll of jersey material) for different players' cards. When it says "The material enclosed is not from any specific game or event" they're really saying "the jersey enclosed was taken from a random off-the-rack jersey and used on multiple cards"
To say the least, I'll be staying far away from newer swatches unless it specifically says the jersey was "game-USED"....
I think it's time we take a stand. These jersey cards are joke. Most are wothereless.
One drastic measure I had was to send these wannabes back to the company saing they raised the price of everything but but lowered the qualty of "hits"!! I'll be glad when the plain jersey card goes the way out as the pennie.

That is all...

I tend to agree. It's kinda cool, but I like you said are they just using unsold retail jerseys or even worse, the jersey material. Also, I was annoyed when Upper Deck started this madness by cutting up a Babe Ruth jersey. I'd rather be in a raffle for the entire thing instead of a piece of it.

Did not hear about that Babe Ruth jsy.... how bout they make cut signatures from the Declaration of Independence next...

Not a chance Nic Cage lets that happen!

GU'd jerseys as a standalone "hit' has come and gone. If manufacturers want to continue to include them as a regular insert, go for it. But with a product like Allen/Ginter cutting back from 3 guaranteed hits to 2 - and than having them both be GU'd jersey cards. Waste of $$$. If they are part of an auto card, than, all for it.

It was in Beckett or SCD years ago, probably around 98 or 99. If I remember correctly they had gotten permission from Ruth's grand daughter, or blessing, and the quote that sticks out to me was UD,'s President saying how this would drive sales of the product...

Wonder how much Ruth's granddaughter got paid for doing that!

Truth! Most of the inserts and parallels sell for more than those basic jersey cards.

Were the cards mailed in a PWE? Jersey/GU cards should only be sent it a padded mailer.

I also despise pulling GU cards. I would much rather get a SP or #'d parallel card.

I believe so... and I'm in absolute agreement. Top loader, sandwiched between cardboard, sent in padded envelope... I won a banger of a dual patch card of Irvin/Lamb about a year ago sent pwe that got crushed in the mail. I had a few choice words with the seller on that one!!
