Widby was a two-sport star at Tennessee in college, earning All-American honors in football and basketball; also lettered in baseball and golf. Drafted by the Saints in football, Bulls of the NBA and New Orleans Buccaneers of the ABA. After not making the Saints, he played a year in the ABA. Played in Super Bowls V & VI with Cowboys, winning Super Bowl VI. His football career ended after the '73 season due to a spinal injury. Later on, he just missed qualifying for the Senior PGA tour as a club pro.
