Seriously; have you ever smelled those old cards? I received:
1956 Al Rosen Topps 35 Indians
Al Rosen, nicknamed the "Hebrew Hammer," is interesting to me for many reasons. I am pleased to have his autograph to go along with my Bob Feller. Though I'm a Tiger fan, I do recognize the Indians are a great club with a great history. Since I've gotten into TTM, I've been even more interested in the plight of ***** Leaguers and other ballplayers who were treated poorly. Al Rosen played during a different time, and he was often heckled with regard to his race. I'm certainly not against heckling, but my shouts aren't related to race or religion. Rosen was a boxer and was not afraid to challenge those who were unpleasant to him because of his Jewish heritage.
I'm guessing Rosen is equally proud that he could hit. He's the 310th-best hitter of all time, in fact. The 1953 MVP packed all of his production into the years between 1950 and 1956. During those years, he averaged 151 hits, 27 HR and 102 RBI. He had 3 hits in the 1954 World Series. In fact, the opponents in the two World Series in which he played were the Boston Braves and the New York Giants...those clubs haven't been in those cities for over half a century!
