While I love getting returns from players on other teams, there is always something special about receiving Tigers! I received the following:
1985 Johnny Grubb Topps 643
1984 Johnny Grubb Topps 42
1987 Johnny Grubb Topps 384
1983 Johnny Grubb Topps Traded 38T
Johnny Grubb had a very respectable 16-year MLB career. Of course, as a Tiger fan, I am most interested in the fact that he is a member of the 1984 World Champions! An All-Star in 1974, Grubb played for the Padres, Rangers and Indians before finishing up with five years in Detroit. Baseball-Reference points out that he's the 943rd-best hitter of all time. How many of us wish we had a single at-bat? In Grubb's three postseason series (Detroit '84 and '87), he was 6-14, for a .429 average. Currently, he coaches baseball at his alma mater in Richmond, Virginia.
Best of all, each of these cards features Mr. Grubb in Tiger Stadium. (I believe. The 1983 card is cropped kinda close, but it looks right.) I love those...could my Tiger Stadium seats be somewhere in the photo?
2010 Jim Bunning 089/399 Topps Tribute 19
That's right, a Hall-of-Famer and former Senator! He finished his basebal career with 224 wins and 2855 strikeouts and was inducted into the Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee in 1996. I love having serial-numbered cards signed by all-time greats!
