Well, I will never, ever have as awesome a 1987 Topps collection as some of you kind folks, but you have to love receiving one of those wood-bordered beauties in the mail.

I received:
1987 Mike Loynd Topps 126 Rangers
1987 Mike Loynd Fleer Update U-67 Rangers
1988 Mike Loynd Score 491 Rangers

My Mike Loynd experience represents a lot of the reasons I am enjoying this hobby. I noticed I had a bunch of his cards lying around (including the 1987 Topps) and decided to look him up. Loynd made the majors quickly after a stellar career at Florida State. I found a few news articles and a Loynd post at the always insightful "Greatest 21 Days" site. Loynd had a lot of confidence. The gentleman who writes the site points out that Loynd said in response to concerns his pitch velocity was too low, "My fastball has been clocked at 86-88 mph, but (against Arizona) I might have to throw my multipurpose pitch inside and light up the JUGGS gun. Somebody might have to catch one on the side of the head." As someone who has very little confidence in his writing or teaching or just about anything else, Mr. Loynd can offer very important advice. Have confidence!
