Has anyone come across any 2011 Topps baseball sparkle variations?
I understand they are also available in retail packs.
Only a few players are confirmed, but by the looks of the list people are speculating there may be variations found of all players.
The difference is somewhere on the player is a sparkle highlight. Most likely for Topps 60 year diamond anniversary.
Usually on a pitcher the highlight is found on the arm or ball.
Curious if anyone found one.

I haven't even heard of those, hopefully the Diamond Anniversary ones I just traded aren't one of the "sparkles"!

I saw one over on blowout...guy pulled it and it was a pitcher..ball had a highlight "star" looking kinda thing on it...other than that it looked the same as the regular.

They are popping up on Ebay. A Jeter just got listed and is at the opening bid of $30.00 with 6 days to go.

The "Diamond Anniversary" cards are parellels similar to the black and gold borders. I have not heard about the sparkle ball thingy!

Here's a list of the Diamond Sparkle cards from baseballcardpedia.com:

I picked up 10 retail packs and got these sparkle variants in them:

256 T. Colvin
310 A. Gonzalez

I wonder if they did the whole set in the sparkle variant?!?!?

I think the ones you got are the regular Diamond Anniversary parallels. The "sparkle" ones have an odd sparkle on a specific part of the card, I guess.

WHY does Topps feel the need to keep coming up with these stupid and confusing gags in their set? The set is great, but I hate when they pull stuff like this.

You are correct sir! Sorry for the confusion!!!

Here's a picture from Ebay.
The top photo shows the variation with a "sparkle" (star) on Ichiro's right wrist band.

These don't bother me as much as full-on variations do. I'm not a hard-core set collector, so maybe it would if I was, but they're just a parallel to me. If you want to collect them, go for it; if not, just ignore them.

They don't really bother me too much, I just don't see why they feel the need to insert these variations. I just ignore them. :)

I think it depends on how you collect the set. I only collect the base set, so all the variations, etc. don't bother me. If I was trying for a master set, I could understand the frustration in trying to get all the different variations.

With that said, I think this is a pretty cool twist, especially since it is their diamond anniversary. Too bad they didn't have 1/1's with real diamond chips in them instead of computer graphic diamonds....
