RIP Jerry Van Dyke -- the beloved Luther from "Coach". Always enjoyed how that show portrayed big time college football almost to a T!

sad to see "Fast" Eddie Clarke of Motorhead pass away yesterday.

He lives his life, he's living it fast
Don't try to hide, when the dice have been cast
He rides a whirlwind, that cuts to the bone
Loaded forever, and ferociously stoned

On iron horse he flies, on iron horse he gladly dies
Iron horse his wife, iron horse his life

Received my 1954 Topps sent to Mr. Jerry Kindall for his signature, catcher for the luckless Cubs, inscribed on the envelope was Deceased Return to Sender...... R.I.P. Mr. Kindall.

He played with my neighbor on the National Championship MN Gophers baseball team, too.

Might be a stretch, but I remember the movie Airheads with a question along the line of who would win a battle between god and Lemmy.....trick question, because Lemmy IS God. That is pretty much the extent of my Motorhead knowledge, with the exception of "Ace of Spades

Unfortunately, it is something that is happening more and more as these vintage players age.....Have had a couple come back as such, and had a couple ready to send out, that I never bothered to when I saw they had passed.

Tremendous loss. One of the iconic voices of sports, IMHO. Whether it was CFB (on which he left an indelible imprint) or MLB, I always loved listening to him. His voice was mellifluous, he did not stray off into extraneous discussions, and his enthusiasm was palpable.
RIP,
Boots

RIP Dolores O'Riordan, lead singer of The Cranberries (Zombie). Had a very unique sound!

Yeah, that is a shocker especially because she did not seem to suffer from any of the pitfalls (drugs, alcohol, crazy lifestyle etc.) that many music stars do. She seemed to be following the Pat Benatar path with attaining huge fame and fortune, then stepping away from the music scene to raise her family and then coming back to the music scene in a much smaller scale. This is very shocking and sad.

Sadly former Celtics great JoJo White passed away at the age of 71 after a long bout with cancer. He was one of the very first basketball players I remember as a kid when I began following pro basketball in the early 1970s. He was an absolute mainstay of my first decade of watching pro basketball.

I had not heard about JoJo in years until I found out he had a son that is an actor who played on the FX drama The Shield which was a show I never missed.

As a Philly kid, despised everything Celtics growing up - from the players...to the owner..to that stupid floor!

But give credit to winners -- they are such for a reason. Great players, great leadership.

As a Baltimore/Capital/Washington Bullets fan back then I also disliked the Celtics. And JoJo White seemed to play with the Celtics for my entire youth! He has to be one of the first 5 or ten pro basketball players I discovered as a kid.

Tyler Hilinski, the odds on favorite to be Washington State's starting quarterback next year was found dead in his apartment from an apparent suicide. That is beyond shocking.

Japan also has a large number of suicides! Best regards, David
