During 2011, APBA is celebrating its 60th year as the leading sports simulation board game! This year APBA will be offering season sets for 1951, the year that APBA began business with its award winning baseball game.

In 1951, there were only forty eight states in the United States. There were no major sports franchises west of the Mississippi River, players traveled by trains and there was no sports talk radio.

There was only the "original six" hockey teams. Goalies did not wear masks. Players did not wear helmets. A “hat trick” was a goal and an assist; and a major penalty was for fighting.

All 5 games of the Stanley game went to OT, with Toronto winning 4 of them. Bill Barilko scored the Cup winner. That summer he died in a plane crash in a remote part of Canada; his body and plane wreckage would not be found until over a decade later.

Gordie Howe was easily the scoring champ with 43 goals and 43 assists for 86 points, with the runner-up Rocket Richard 20 points fewer at 42-24-66. Detroit goalie Terry Sawchuk was rookie of the year with 11 shutouts and a 1.99 GAA. Milt Schmidt was league MVP as his Boston Bruins edged out NY Rangers by 1 point for the final playoff spot. Schmidt was tied for 4th in scoring with 22-39-61 despite missing 8 games but had all the intangibles on defense, faceoffs, forechecking, being tough in the slot and corners, killing penalties and logging a ton of ice time.

This set contains 147 carded players and is available for $15!

In addition to Hockey, APBA also offers Pro Baseball, Football, Golf and Soccer games!
