Well, friends, it took a 24-hour wait, but baseball finally returned to the Salt City. I was at Name-of-bank-that-bought-the-old-bank Stadium on Friday afternoon, but there was a rain delay of about an hour before the game was cancelled. Saturday afternoon was only slightly better, but it was good enough to get the game in. (Although the rain was intermittent until the end of the game, when the clouds parted for five minutes.)

I changed up my procedure a little; I graphed the home team before the game and the away team after. The Syracuse Chiefs played the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. The Chiefs were riding a three-game winning streak, but didn't have much momentum at all. I saw what may have been the oddest play I've ever seen live in a game. Here's how it's described in the "paper":

IronPigs’ leadoff man Leandro Castro came out swinging on the first pitch with a double off Chiefs starter Tanner Roark (1-1, 3.27). The Chiefs had Castro caught in a rundown between second and third after Cesar Hernandez hit a ground ball back to Roark. However, Castro avoided a tag by third baseman Carlos Rivero and continued home when no one was covering the plate. The throw home by shortstop Zach Walters missed catcher Jhonatan Solano and Roark and allowed Hernandez to advance to third.

The day was as cold as the Chiefs' bats, but the IronPigs didn't have that problem and they won 6-0. Graphing wasn't exactly cold, but it felt like an off day. A few Chiefs signed for me before the game, but I didn't get Will Rhymes like I wanted to. After the game, a lot of the IronPigs seemingly just wanted to get back to the hotel. (Which is totally understandable.) There were, of course, highlights. I saw Zach Miner, a guy I loved from the Tigers. (I was surprised he hasn't been in the majors since 2009.) He seemed like a pleasant guy when he was in the bullpen and encouraged folks to applaud for Cesar Jimenez, who pitched in relief for Adam Morgan and got nailed in the calf by a batted ball. Jimenez made the play and had to walk off a little pain before closing out the game. When Miner came out after the game, he seemed a little surprised to meet a Tiger fan. I told him that I always loved him on the team, as he was reliable and would pitch in just about any situation the team needed. He said, "You must only have seen half of the games," but was kidding; he knew I was sincere in my compliments. (For the record, he went 25-20 with a very respectable ERA over four years with the Tigers.)
