Hey, everyone. This return is one of the cooler ones, in my opinion. Why? I had probably heard of Billy Pierce before, but I hadn't realized that he was one of the premier pitchers of the 1950s. Yes, he pitched for my Tigers in 1945 and 1948, but he dominated for the White Sox between 1949 and 1961. In fact, the White Sox erected a statue in his honor at their stadium. Thanks to TTM, I learned a little about Mr. Pierce and filled in one of the holes in my understanding of baseball history. Awesome! (And come on. You have to love getting back a card from the 1950s.) I received:
1956 Billy Pierce Topps 150 White Sox
1964 Billy Pierce Topps 222 Giants
And seriously, the Detroit native should have had a little more Hall of Fame consideration. His pitching career makes him most similar to Vida Blue, Tiant, Newhouser, Catfish Hunter and more.
