Hello,

I was looking at the salaries this evening of my team. If a player has a salary this year and next year has a salary and a (A) by it, does that mean he is arbitration eligible? Is it smart to offer a longer term deal before arby hits?

Also, what is the best way to determine how much $ you have to offer contract extensions? Is it the dollars that the owner offers for free agents (front office page upper left corner)?

Thanks, I just want to be sure.

Chris

Yes, I think that's what the 'A' stands for - the estimate the player will get in arbitration. It might be smart to lock them up before arbitration hits if the arb numer is really big and you think you can get a better deal by offering more years.

On the Front Office page, it should tell you how much the owner is giving you for both contract extensions and free agents. I tried to offer a contract extension last sim, but my owner wouldn't allow it since I didn't have enough funds from him available.

Does the value the owner is offering count for this year or next? For e.g., if he is offering 2 million, is that applicable to now or next year?

If you know you're not going to offer arby, can you apply those dollars to who you do want to lock up?

Thanks!

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the $ that the owner is offering is for the 2008 value of the contract. So, if a guy is in his last year, you can offer him however much your owner will give you for 2008.

I don't think you can 'opt out' of the arby dollars and apply those to your extensions. I wish I could deny a few guys arbitration right now so that they aren't on my projected 2008 payroll, but I don't see how this would be possible since the arb. hearings and decisions to non-tender come after the season.

redsguy - Yes, I think it will be at the end of the season after the WS. Each owner will have to determine if they will offer arbitration or non-tender (release) the player. I can't wait to let a few guys go!!!

Me neitherrr! I think I've got everyone signed for next year that I want, and the players I have that are arbitration eligible are getting released. (Greinke is going to answer my extension offer this sim)

I am not extending anyone until they talk to me about it. Right now, players aren't in the mood to cut deals, a season just started. I have seen some outrageous extensions offered to people. None of us are even that familiar with the new ratings OOTP 12 uses yet, and we're extending players 4+ years. When those are huge, burdensome contracts tying people down, please don't complain. (General comment, I have been surprised by the sheer amount of extensions offered!)

In the software, the MAJORITY of players will send you messages in-game asking to negotiate, etc. You will start to see that, and complaints about playing time, positions, etc.

Regarding the next year's extension budget...each owner has different 'personalities' Some will let you extend well beyond your projected payroll...others are sticklers that will not.

Yes, I have one of those sticklers! I tried to extend a guy, but my owner rejected it and the game would not even allow it since I have $0 available for contract extensions. Tough break, I guess. Maybe if I can win some games, he'll loosen up the wallet and free up some money :)

I'm confused. On one page of the financial page, it indicates that I have 5 million for FA.p extensions. When I go to offer an actual deal, it says I don't have the $ available next year. Things just seem ultra tight or am I doing something wrong?
