DL vs sending a player down

I have a player, OF John John, who is injured for 5 days. He isn't truely out, but his performance is impacted by like a third going off of memory. I wanted to just send him down to AAA, and call up someone else, but the game will not let me. Says he is injured, I should place him on the DL. I would have preferred sending to the minors, but I will have to use the 15 day DL I guess, as I need the extra roster spot. But my question is this.....with our sim, will he be able to come off the DL and I can get him back into my lineup on the next sim? His date is retroactive to yesterday, 4/26.
