draft pick trade question

I know it has been asked and answered, but when can the last batch of draft picks be traded? I was thinking it was after the calender year but I am not sure. thanks Pat

Agreed. Being the most recent offender of trading my 08 #1 pick... what's the difference between after the WS and after Jan 1st. It's the offseason and shouldn't affect either team until the next season kicks off. What's the chances of making a change to the ruling Nick?

Real baseball is a full one year from signing. This includes late signers so that you can't sign a player right before he goes back into the draft pool just because you work out a deal for someone to take him. The game ages a player on the January 1st date so that you can see they were showing 1 year as pro even though it was just half a season. I think my preference is to let people make it through free agency before trading away their new draft picks.

The point of the rule in our league is to let people have some time to watch the player develop and play in their system. Otherwise, 50% of the 1st rounders would be on different teams in a week.

Here is a good test....take our initial 2007 inaugural draft. See how many guys on your 40 man roster were drafted by you (AND never left the team at all).

Then take your 2007 draft class, and see how many you still have around that never left the team and returned.

I would venture to guess a few teams could score zero on the first test, and probably have one or two draft picks from 07 left if lucky.
