You might have something there..................

That was my first thought as well, but the ridiculous BIN defeat the purpose.

Why not just place an average opening bid and let it ride, especially on low end stuff. (u see I didn't say junk) :)

ebay

I have not sold on Ebay in a few years, but might be tempted given the free listing. However, what are the other fees in addition to FVF? Aren't there PayPal and shipping fees that Ebay also charges?

9% fvf on the entire sale including the s/h charge. Basic paypal fees are 30 cents per transaction plus 2.9% of the entire transaction amount.

Plus cost of supplies/shipping materials. Time, hassle, con-artists, etc. Don't get me wrong, I still list on eBay for higher end stuff, just not as much as I used to.

Yes, new searches that are normally 3-4 pages will probably bloat to 10+ pages of JUNK!

The fees help keep it a little more serious in my opinion. Same concept with the low opening bid price. Most people are a little worried about starting valuable items for less than $9.99, so they pay more to start the bidding higher or to place a reserve on the item. We get a lot of junk just from the low or no fees for listings starting under $10 (or at least that is the way it used to be...haven't sold in years).

If it doesn't cost anything to list 1987 Topps singles, then people are going to list them and try.

That's one of the factors that lead to yahoo auctions demise. Ebay however was pretty slick about it. They made a concerted effort to turn their site into a fixed price and store venue, which they were hugely successful at, and THEN they offer free listings. I don't like (nicest way to say it) that they pushed away auction sellers but have to admit they were pretty darn smart about how they went about acheiving their ultimate goals. They've got the core they wanted so even if people list junk it just means more traffic for them.

i think EBAY is looking over its shoulder to the new kid in town (COMC.COM) I think checkoutmycards(comc.com) has actually passed EBAY with the number of cards listed. I think EBAY has noticed that COMC has passed them at full speed. COMC is way too popular now for EBAY to catch back up with. People (including myself) have been saying that one day that EBAY will have a rival. COMC has finally showed up. I actually like comc as a buyer as i can find ANYTHING and EVERYTHING im looking for there. im not so sure i like it as a seller though. will let you know in about a good 6 months or so when i can get a better feel for it.

I think you're giving checkoutmycards a bit too much credit at the moment. It's an avenue to explore, and does a very good job for its niche. ( Low to mid end cards with low to medium demand) It's growing nicely, and may, in the future, expand outside of that niche.

You say you can find anything and everything you're looking for there.

As long as you aren't looking for unopened material, complete sets, starter sets, bulk lots, high end hot prospects, high grade vintage, signed vintage, etc. I see they finally got (2) 1991 Donruss Elite cards listed, first ones I've seen since you started hyping them. I still haven't seen a 1984 Fleer Update Puckett for sale on there, or a 1982 Topps Blackless variation, 1982 Fleer Littlefield (left handed) variation, 1987 Bonds Opening Day variation (picturing Johnny Ray), etc etc. They've got ONE 1984 Donruss Mattingly with some surface wear and a dinged corner, and ONE PSA 8 version for roughly 2-2.5x what they sell for on ebay. They have 7 cards from any of the Topps Venezuelan issues, compared to 500+ on ebay.

As for the ebay free listings, I do see it the same way most so, trudging through 8 more pages of filler to find the rare gem you need/want

By junk I mean 1988 Topps with a $9.99 BIN

I know, I was just givin ya a hard time lol. That's why I love how I can narrow my search to not include certain cards, years etc. If I built sets & needed those commons for those years then I'd just shop COMC or sportslots.

Nonsense. Hyperbole. Fiction.

Cards are a small part of what Ebay does, they sell EVERYTHING. And Ebay was the first, the best, the greatest at doing what it does, and that is extremely difficult legacy to overcome. Many have dreamed, many have failed.
Until the perception that Ebay is the destination of choice for selling those rare, 1/1, extremely expensive cards is changed, nothing will overcome them. And right now, COMC isn't even in the same stratosphere.

I agree. COMC is a nice niche, but nothing near ebay with volume, selection and price. Maybe they will grow to compete, but I don't think anything can or will touch ebay for exposure and results. Not unless something amazing and completely trailblazing blows open the way we sell items. It could happen...just wish I could come up with an idea and execute first!! I got nothing though...
