Hey guys, i have never ran across these Rip cards before. yes i know what they are and what they can offer. i have three that are unripped and i am unsure if i will rip them or not just yet. I know the value goes up over time with an unripped card. but do they hold time sensitive stuff like a redemption card? that you have to send it in with in a time frame? is it worth it to hold them unripped as i have been told that as i stated before the value goes up on the card? anyways Help please.

I suppose it depends on the set. I would hope that there were no time sensitive items inside a rip card, like a redemption, but I wouldn't put it past a major card maker to pull that crap.

I'd guess that depending on the player, you might expect roughly 1/2 or more of each rip card in a print run to be ripped by eager treasure hunters, but I also believe there are enough people socking away the unripped versions as well, especially better players. You know that as each new card gets ripped, the unripped cards become more scarce and possibly move valuable.

It's a personal choice, but with lesser players, I'd either sell them or rip them. With better players, I'd either sell or keep unripped.

Dave:
I've never heard of any redemptions being inside of a rip card. I guess the way to look at it is: the contents of the rip card are not going to change over time. It all depends on if you feel lucky. Fortunately, even with older rip cards that are holding the extended minis (which are the easiest things to pull), there are still people out there putting those master sets together. Therefore, all is not lost if you pull one of those. If you hit a wood 1/1 or a red auto/10 - you are in the money. Like Curt said above - if it is a major star, I'd sell or leave it unripped. If it was not a major star, I'd sell or rip away!

all three i have are from the A&G 2012 set i have a david ortiz, jon lester and an al kline. and ya i didnt see anything that topps was seeding them with a redemption, but i thought it be best to check with you guys. im thinking of keeping them unripped value only goes up over time and if i need to sell them for cash they will be more of a value that way. although that screaming kid inside me says rip em its like christmas lol. thanks for the help guys it is much appreciated.

This is just my personal collecting tastes, but I would likely keep Kaline for my collection, sell the Ortiz and either sell or possibly rip the Lester. I have pretty much conditioned myself to avoid the strong urge to rip feelings now, by not buying packs anymore, but it is still fun to rip open something now and again. It depends on what I could get for them unripped. Kaline would even be on the selling block too, if I could get decent money for it.

Good Luck with your decision. It's not an easy one for anyone.

I've had about ten of these A&G rip cards over the years and ripped every one of them. Every one of them had an extended mini. The odds are overwhelming that that's what you'll get, but being a set collector I've thought about going after the extended mini's.
