Today, I went to an antique store to see if I could find some old baseball stuff, and didn't find a tremendous amount. You know, I found the usual stuff, like late '70's commons ridiculously over priced. One thing did catch my eye, though. A grab bag of 5 autographed baseball's for $10 total. Okay, I figured, I'd give it a shot.

Well, I just got the bag home, and am identifying these while I type this. Okay, the first ball is some kid name Ray's no hit ball from the Babe Ruth League. So far, doesn't sound too terribly promising. Maybe I just threw away $10. We'll find out.

The second ball is an inscribed vintage Official League Worth ball from Jesus Alou to Ray. Okay, Alou is pretty cool, and it is vintage, but it's an off league ball. Not too terribly common from back in the day. You used to be able to find those Worth balls, back in the day, at TG&Y for a dollar.

The third ball is Ray's scond home run ball from Babe Ruth League. So far, not looking too great.

The fourth ball is Ray's all star ball from babe Ruth League in 1975. So far, it looks like I spent $10 on Ray's memories. I wonder what the final ball will bring?

Well, wouldn't you know it, the 5th and final ball is an Official National League Warren Giles ball signed by ...this guy...

You know, that was a pretty darn neat find on Father's Day! How's that for a vintage out of this world success signed a few years before his flight to the moon?

Congrats!!!
Very cool :)
I am interested in the Jesus Alou ball. Are you trading or selling it?

Thanks man, I appreciate the kind words, mi amigo. Jesus was one of my favorite Astros when I was growing up. The man could just flat out hit. He was also an extremely colorful player. He was very loose at the plate and was known to swing at almost anything near the plate...and ususally hit it. He never liked to take a pitch. One of my favorite memories of him was in the '73 World Series when he was with the A's. I don't recall who was pitching for the Mets, Matlack, I think, but Alou stood at the plate and watched a fastball cross the plate just barely outside. Alou rolled his bat off his shoulder onto the ground and rolled his head back at the mound in disbelief as if to say, "You can't even throw it over the plate?" It cracked up the NBC television crew. They kept playing that back over and over.

Alou has always had a cool sig, and I didn't have a vintage signed ball of his until now. I would like to keep it in the PC. I picked up the bag hoping I might find some old Astros and sure enough there was one...and an Apollo Astronaut.

No problem :)
If you happen to find any other latino player PLMK if it's for trade.
Thanks for the fast reply "Amigo"

I will, my friend! I was hoping to come across some old Colt 45's or Astros programs but no dice. Several years ago I found a program from the first game at the Astrodome between the 'stros and the Yankees (they also used the same program at the second game between the Astros and the Orioles) for $18 at an Antique store. A friend of mine had found an old Colt 45's program at a yard sale for $2...and when he flipped it open it was signed by several Pirates players including some guy named Clemente. These are the things that drive me to take a chance like that every now and again.

Roberto Clemente WOW :D
That is an awesome success. And for the price of 10 dollars you got 2 really good autographs So I would say keep trying you never know what you'll get next. :)
