Happy New Year, everyone! Today, I received:

1957 Bob Wilson Topps 19
1957 Bob Wilson Topps 19

Bob "Red" Wilson is an interesting guy. Even though I'm a Buckeye, I admire that he was the center for the Wisconsin Badgers in the late 1940s. What must it have been like to experience college football before it became 99% about the money? Wilson was the preferred catcher for Frank Lary, a highly underrated Tiger hurler. He also caught Jim Bunning's no-hitter. During his career, Wilson made the tour of the midwest, playing for the Tigers, White Sox and Indians. He was responsible for 4.4 WAR over his career.

1988 Gary Roenicke Score 482 Braves
1984 Gary Roenicke Topps 372 Orioles
1987 Gary Roenicke Topps 683 Yankees

Gary Roenicke is the 1074th-best hitter of all time. He started his career with the Expos in 1976...that must have been an interesting experience! The bulk of his career was spent with the Orioles, but his last two years were spent with the Yankees and Braves, respectively. In 12 years, the outfielder contributed 15 WAR and had a heckuva 1983 ALCS, going 3-4 with 5 BB and scoring 4 runs while driving in 4. The Baltimore Sun did a where-are-they-now with Roenicke, who is currently a scout in the Orioles system and sees over 200 games a year. (That sounds pretty awesome.) He's been married for 30 years and is part of a big baseball family. (His son Josh and his brother Ron all made the show...not too bad!)
