I've never had anything graded, but I have a vintage T-206 card that I'd like authenticated and slabbed for my collection.

My question is twofold: which company is my best bet for vintage slabbing, and does anyone have a "free grading" coupon they're willing to trade? :)

I would say if you're going vintage, use PSA or SGC.
Tobacco cards look great in an SGC holder.

I agree....the standard for vintage grading is PSA, but the tobacco cards are an exception and are probably most commonly handled by SGC (they do look great as well)

SGC's black borders make the cards look good! They are probably the best for vintage. PSA is really good as well. I have a free grading coupon from PSA. I am actually running a series reviewing all of the major grading services for my column on Baseball Digest.com Here is a link to the SGC review:

Once the reviews go live there will be a special coupon code for both Beckett and GAI services. Both companies are offering a % off the total order from them. Those reviews should be live in a week or two.

I am slowly working on a T206 Red Sox team set, and have bought cards graded by PSA, SGC, and raw.

Since then, I have had the raw ones graded SGC, and even crossed over the PSA ones into SGC holders. They look fantastic, and I think the SGC holders feel more secure.

In addition, SGC has awesome customer service. I once turned in some cards a show, and the grader actually remembered my only prior submission. He talked to me for awhile about cards, how they grade, and the hobby in general.

In comparison, I stopped by a PSA booth once, and I got the impression the woman working there couldn't tell me the first thing about cards, let alone care about them. Basically just had time to take my money (first and only time I graded with them).

Just my two pennies.

Looks like SGC, I suppose. Looks like it's only about twenty bucks with return shipping, so that's not as bad as I expected. (Don't quite know what I expected.)

Would you guys suggest SGC for ALL Vintage, or just the really old Tobacco-type stuff.

I'm in the process of purchasing a beautiful '62 Aaron that I'm thinking about having graded. I've always heard that PSC and SGC were "second tier" companies, and Beckett was still the gold standard. But again, I've never had anything graded before.

I think SGC for Pre-War stuff. PSA for all vintage, and Beckett for all modern era.

I agree 100%

Be sure to check out my series reviewing all of these company's services. Beckett review will be up this weekend, PSA will be up next weekend.

Just checked out the PSA website. $15 for the grading, which isn't bad at all. $18 for the return shipping makes this an unlikely proposal. :(

PSA runs specials all the time for members. If you need a card graded I am a member and might be able to help. Specials are based on the cards value. PM me if you have any questions. But I could help you out. The shipping kills the process unless you submit a bunch of cards.

If you are just getting it slabbed for protection I would go with BGS as they have the best slab on the market.

If you are going to get it graded also then SGC is the way but just to have it slabbed go BGS/BVG all day cause their case is FAR superior.
