I have been overlaying line on newspaper print since I was in middle school. I always liked the "cartooning" effect it had on the pictures, and it also strengthened my understanding of line, shade, and seeing things as "blocks of color." All of this has had a positive impact on my artwork.

My father bought me a 1962 Topps Mantle when I was young (see this link for more information: http://www.toppsblog.com/?p=587).
Since 1962 Topps is my all-time favorite base set, I decided to apply the same "cartooning" method to the 2011 Topps Heritage set.

After 2 days of work, I am about 50 cards in. I will have the complete 425-card base set finished by the end of December. Once it is complete, I will be auctioning off the entire "cartooned" set on ebay. Since my father, who turned me on to the 1962 Topps set, has always struggled with diabetes - proceeds from this auction will go directly to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Just wanted to share a sample of my progress;)........

Very interesting. Some might cringe at the thought of drawing on cards these days, but when done in that manner, it might spark something of a cult following.

Those do look pretty cool.
