The Jimmy V Classic Golf Tournament was scheduled for this weekend and $5 got you a ticket to get in. Having never been before I didn't know what to expect so Tim (DMBfan) and myself met up and headed over to the golf course. The doors opened at 8:30 and tee off was at 9:30. For an hour you could mingle with the celebrities and take photos and get autographs.
So we immediately started going around and getting a few things signed. The first celebrity I saw I needed and really wanted was none other then Sting… yes the wrestler… who made his first appearance to the Jimmy V golf tournament. Got a photo signed and later he signed 4 cards for me. Then we saw Stuart Scott come up and got 1 A&G signed, later got another one signed. Tom Gugliotta was also around so I got all of my cards signed as well as a photo of him. One of the stars Alfonso Ribeiro (Carlton) from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air was there, and he signed an index card.
Torry and Terrance Holt were there as well. I got them to sign a white paneled football which came out great except for a stray blue sharpie line which is ok. Charles Barkley walked up and immediately started signing and taking photos. Then he warmed up and if you ever get a chance to see the worst golf swing in golf, you gotta see him hit. I don’t know how in the world he hits the ball with a swing like that. The singers from Boyz II Men were there but only 2 of them were here for the golf event. They both signed a note card and were super nice. Everyone was waiting on Scotty McCreery, the local boy who won last year’s American Idol so we tried but were unsuccessful!
Then they called for all celebrities to begin heading to their assigned holes. So Tim and I made our way to the furthest hole we could which I think was #3 or #4. Glad we did as there was no one around. We ran into Derek Whittenburg who played on the 83’ NCSU team that won the championship. He signed for both of us. The hole we eventually stopped at was Torry Holt’s first tee off hole. We stopped and caught his team and his first shot landed 10 feet from us near the golf path. Of course we didn’t let him live this one down but his next shot was a chip in from 50 feet of so that hit the cup and rimmed out. Once he was done he signed a photo I had for him and a card that Tim helped me out with. Afterwards we walked towards hole #4 and Barkley came up to tee of. He was either drunk or didn’t want to be there as he was dropping F’bombs everywhere and turned down a photo to 2 kids who wanted to take one with him. He did end up signing 1 of 2 trading cards I had for him. Bates Battaglia (former Hurricane player) was next and got an index card of him, as he was playing in flip flops.
