well I guess baseballs are out of the question then I have a baseball that he signed back in the 90's that is 95% washed out, was hoping I could get him to resign it

You might take a shot with that. I have also heard of people sending a letter requesting permission to send a special item.

A buddy of mine had a Sports Illustrated from the 70s with Johnny Musso (Alabama running back) on the cover. He sent a letter and Mr. Musso wrote back that he would be happy to sign and return it.
