Former Mariner and White Sox Julio Cruz lives a few miles away from my favorite card store. The store had him in for a signing a couple years back and I was able to get a number of nice M's things signed. Oddly enough, he was appearing with Franklin Gutierrez. FG was $15, Cruz was free!

Anyway, the owner mentions that from time to time Cruz will come into the store and has even sold him some memorabilia pieces. I asked him if he might have Cruz in someday again for another signing, but he said he felt a little funny asking him. I asked if he might be able to get a few more cards signed for me if Cruz were to come by and he agreed.

I left them a few weeks back and Cruz happened in within a week or so and happily signed everything I left! I really wanted the Mariner stuff and wish I had more, but had just sorted a big box of junk 87 Topps and it had 6-7 Cruz and White Sox Team Leader cards, so I tossed those into the pile.

I went by today to pick up the cards. A couple got a little smeared (mostly the M's stuff unfortunately), but it is still a fantastic success. Thank you to the shop and for Mr. Cruz!!

that's awesome...i have that 87 topps signed by brinkman. congrats...let me know if any are ft??

This is a perfect example of putting to good use the "what-the-heck-am-I-going-to-do-with-all-these-worthless-80s-cards" cards! :)

Great stuff!

To those who asked, I have 2 of the 87 Topps that I could trade and 3 of the Team Leader that I could trade.

I'd be looking for something similar (TTM/IP, preferably Dodger players, but anything might work. If you have a page, photos or a list of cards you'd trade straight across for, that is optimal. I prefer not to have to weed through people's high end eye candy in hopes of finding the 3 cards they have that they believe would be a suitable trade.
