Hey,

So I went to a local auction today that had some autographed baseballs listed. I was surprised at what I saw. Six baseballs in all....Bob Gibson, Luis Aparicio, Harmon Killebrew, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, and Ted Williams!! The first thing that crossed my mind is what in the hell are these doing here in my small town?

The auctioneer had no idea who the players were as he really didint pay attention to them. When it came time to bid they said high bid can buy as many as they want for that price. There was me and some other guy bidding and I stopped at $95. The guy went up and took only one ball...Bob Gibson!! LOL

Then bidding started back up and me and that guy went at it again and I got it for $55 and took these three beauties........

The Killebrew and Aparicio went to the other guy for $30 each.

Three NICE baseballs for $165? I think I did great!

Those are nice! The Aaron looks good. I think the Willie is, as well. Little concerned about the character spacing on "illie." Not sure about the Williams, but if it's the real deal it's post stroke. Couldn't hurt to spend a little extra and get those authenticated.

Hey,

Thanks guys....I plan on getting them checked out just to be sure but I figured for $160........it was worth the risk.

The Williams is on a OAL Bobby Brown ball and the Mays and Aaron are on ONL William White balls.

Just a quick word on authentication here. Keep in mind if you go the authentication route, what you are paying for is an opinion and that's it. The big authentication companies put their stamp of approval on an item when they pass the item and list it as authentic. Just keep in mind even if an item doesn't pass their test, that doesn't mean it's not authentic. It just means it won't pass right now. I've seen items signed in front of me by a big name player that didn't pass authentication. That's a good thing and it's a bad thing. The good thing is it means the item has to go through a lot of scrutinity to pass. The bad thing is there are more authenic items of big name players, such as Pujols, Jeter, A-Rod, and Ted Williams out there that aren't being given the green light. The point is, even if one or two of those balls don't come back as authentic don't toss them out. They could still be the real deal.

That's a crazy story. Congratulations! On the bright side, if they were fakes, the faker would have sold them in a way that would make much more money.
