Hello everyone, My name is Darryl and I'm new to TTM collecting. I just started in January. I am a Cubs fan and the 89 team is my favorite. I was 12 years old and this was the team that started me out as a Cubs fan. I posted a few of my early successes but no pictures. I figured I would go ahead and start a thread with my successes so far.
Mark Grace was my favorite player. He was the first TTM success I had back in 1989. I sent him these 2 cards and received both back signed.
I also purchased this signed 8X10 at a card show in 1989. I recently had it framed and matted.
I purchased this signed Gold Glove ball off Ebay last year.
Andre Dawson was my other favorite player. I also sent 2 cards to him in 1989 and he returned them both back signed. The Topps cards below are the ones I sent. The Donruss cards were sent by my friend when he found out that I got my cards signed. I then traded with him to get them.
Last month, Dawson did a signing at the Bob Feller Museum. I don't usually like paying for signatures, but I really wanted his signature on a Hall of Fame ball. then I found a jersey pretty cheap on Ebay, so since I had just gotten a bonus at work, I figured why not. I'm probably going to do some type of custom shadowbox to display these items.
In January of 1990, Jerome Walton came to town for an appearance at a University of South Alabama basket ball game. One of the assistant coaches for the baseball team coached him in Junior college and he was the reigning NL ROY. Autographs were $5 each and the money went to charity. I got a RONLB signed and an 89 Fleer card.
Now for my more recent successes.
I picked up joe Girardi on a 1990 Upper Deck IP at Yankees spring training last year.
Sent 89 Topps to Don Zimmer at his home on 1/4/12. Received card back signed on 1/11/12. I'm told that this is possibly his wife's signature.
Sent 89 Topps, 89 Fleer, and 90 Upper Deck to Mike Bielecki at his home on 1/4/12. Received all 3 back signed on 1/12/12.
Sent 89 Topps, 89 Fleer, 89 Score, and 90 Upper Deck to Vance Law at his home on 1/4/12. Received all 4 cards back signed on 1/13/12.
Sent 89 Donruss Rookies and 90 Upper Deck to Rick Wrona at his home on 1/4/12. Received both cards back signed on 1/17/12. The Donruss was personalized.
Sent 89 Topps, 89 Fleer, and 90 Upper Deck to Les Lancaster at his home on 1/4/12. Received all 3 cards back signed on 1/19/12.
Sent 89 Topps, 89 Score, 90 Upper Deck and an 8X10 to Shawon Dunston at his home on 1/13/12. Received all 3 cards back signed and 8X10 was personalized. I took it and had it framed and matted like my Grace 8X10.
Sent 89 Topps, 89 Fleer, 89 Score, and 90 Upper Deck to Rick Sutcliffe at ESPN on 1/4/12. Received all 4 cards back signed on 2/11/12.
Sent 90 Upper Deck to Luis Salazar at his home on 1/4/12. Received card back signed on 2/23/12.
Derrick May was not a part of the 89 team, but he did have a 90 Upper Deck card. I saw he was with the Cardinals organization so I sent 4 cards out on 2/22/12 to the Cards ST address. Received all 4 back signed on 3/1/12.
Thanks for looking and I'll add more as I get them.
