I have always been drawn to cards of guys I like in uniforms that one would not ordinarily picture them in, most stints not lasting more than a year or two. Cards like Pete Rose on the Expos, Willie Mays on the Giants, Steve Carlton on the Giants/White Sox/Indians/Twins (whew!), etc.

I have been doing this as an aside to my regular player/set collecting ever since I can remember. I have always wanted to actually sit down and make a list so that I can quantify my specific wants. I always go into a card show not knowing what I want at all, often just buying anything that catches my eye, especially these "cameo" cards of the MANY guys I collect.

My question is, how do you organize your cards and would it be relatively easy to find cards like these if I were to provide the team and the year(s) the player played on that team? I don't have access to Beckett to provide the specific cards that the player is pictured in a specific uniform.

Would any of you take the time to dig for these if I were to provide a list? Most players would be from the 70s to the 90s, and most of my main wants would likely be base cards.

Even if you wouldn't, please reply so that I can factor it into my decision on whether or not I should take the time to compile this list. I'm trying to get a basic idea on how fellow Benchies store their cards and how easy or hard it would be to locate any possible hits they'd have to these types of needs.

Thanks!

To answer your question I would be more than happy to look through my cards to see what jersey they have on, provided I have time. As a team collector I ask people all the time to find cards that would most likely be stashed somewhere out of sight and I am more than happy to return the favor - provided I have the time.

P.S. I think Willie Mays is best know for play with the Giants.

I find those some of the more fascinating autograph subjects...Ken Boyer as a Dodger, Reggie Jackson as an Oriole, Duke Snider as a Giant!

In addition to cards, you can really find some great stuff in pictures too, as not all have those unique team cards.

Killebrew with the Royals, Aaron with the Brewers, Willie Davis in a Cardinals uniform. Ryne Sandberg as a Phillie, etc.

Most of these occur at the beginning or end of long careers, of course.

Paul Waner as a Dodger, Frank Robinson as an Angel, Babe Ruth as a Twin. (Just checking to see if you're paying attention).

Cool, good to know that, I'll have to take the time and actually make this list one day. :)

PS-- That was my error on the Mays, I meant Mets.

I constantly check google images for pics of these types of things, I just looked up Duke Snider on the Giants and could only find one pic!

I've got cards of Aaron on the Brewers and Jackson on the O's, and I'm fairly certain I've got the only cards of Killebrew on the Royals and Ryno on the Phils (not counting his minor league cards). Not sure on the others.

PS- Ruth must've been WAAAAY past his prime if he was on the Twins. :)
