Phew! Well, I wasn't quite sure this one would come back. After a 154-day wait, I received a 1993 Ted Williams card (#104) of Mahlon Duckett, the ***** League infielder. (I would have sworn that I sent a 2010 A&G. I'm not complaining.)

Mr. Duckett is a very interesting case. He is a middle infielder who played for the Homestead Grays and Philadelphia Stars. The "gentlemen's agreement" kept him out of the majors before Jackie Robinson. A case of rheumatic fever kept him out of the majors after Jackie Robinson.

Can you imagine? He dug in against Satchel Paige.

A very cool return.

I met Mahlon a number of times when I was living in Philly and he is a class act. He has a great story about playing against Satchel during his 1940 rookie season with Philly. He is one of the FEW left from the ***** Leagues when it was really thriving. He was featured in the HBO special The Blacklist a few years ago.

I haven't seen that...I'm thinking I probably should. I'm so glad we have guys like Duckett and O'Neal on film...I just wish we had more!
