The only thing I could recommend would be an advanced search. Select the forum and date range you're looking for.
If you remember enough information about the thread you should be able to find it pretty easily.

the furtherest I was able to go back was 2009.
If you select a date in 2009, then open it again, it should allow you to go back further from there. It will only load x number of years at a time.
