Some Oakland A's fans may think they are seeing double when they read the transactions page today. They will see a name they are very familiar with, but don't be duped, this is the 2nd Felix Hernandez that will be in the A's organization. Today the following trade was made between the A's and division rival, the Texas Rangers:
A's receive:
SS Ian Stewart (MLB) '14 - $500K
LF Felix Hernandez (AAA) minor league deal
for
Rangers receive:
CF Andrew McCutchen (MLB) '14 - $4M, '15 - $4.5M, '16 -$5M, '17 - $8.9M
1B Bruno Myers (AA) - minor league deal
Oakland's GM said "We feel like we gave up a lot, but for this team to move forward, we needed to move some payroll. It isn't huge, but we feel we helped our team. Stewart will challenge for the starting job at second for us, and Hernandez has a good shot at making the big club this year, if not next for us. And we didn't have a spot going forward for Myers, barring injuries."
