I hit a card show in Seattle today and had some good luck. I won a drawing for a $50 gift certificate to use at the show, not bad! I used it towards some boxes but we'll get to those later. I picked up a few cards for my collection, nothing big. Kind of seems like I've cleaned local dealers out of cards I want.

These were $5 each.

These were a buck a piece, not bad, they're mint and book at $8 each.

This was my favorite pickup. There was a woman who had bought some autographed balls at Goodwill or some other thrift store and was asking a dealer if he knew who had signed them. She already knew a few and the dealer was identifying most of the others, mostly Mariners autographs from 5-10 years ago. The dealer looked at this one for a while and was stumped, so I asked to take a look. I had to laugh, what are the odds they would be standing next to one of very few Todd Van Poppel collectors in the world? I didn't have his autograph on a baseball (official AL ball that looks like it saw some use in BP or a game) so I bought it from her for ten bucks. A nice addition to my collection!

I searched the bargain bins for trade bait but the great deals were few and far between. These were the most interesting ones I picked up. All for trade of course.

I used my $50 gift certificate towards the purchase of 2 boxes: 2012 Archives ($85) and 2011 Bowman Draft ($65). It got me 1/3 off and I did pretty well with them.

First Archives:

The Golds sucked.

But hey I pulled a Will Clark autograph! They've been selling for $45-50 on eBay. It and the Otis are both up for trade but of course I'd expect something nice for the Clark.

Then I cracked Bowman Draft:

The first Gold Refractor autograph I've ever pulled! Taylor Jungmann 18/50, books for $150. Available for sale or trade for nice A's stuff. :D

I also bought a box of 1992 Score Series 2 for $5. If I pull a Mantle autograph I'll make sure to update this post while hyperventilating.

Thanks,
Richard

Looks like a good day at the card show. I have not been to one in years. I used to look forward to going to the weekend shows with my dad and uncle back in the 90's, especially if there was an autograph guest. One day I will make it to the national...one day.

I picked these up on line over the past week and got them in yesterday and today:

Richard- I am going tomorrow to the show! Was it any good or mainly vintage?

It was mostly vintage but there was enough new stuff to make the trip worth it. The usual wax guy was there but the supply guy was not. I saw some Bagwells in bargain bins but nothing rare. Not a lot of patches at the show, and there were plenty of autographed RCs around but not many from 2012 Bowman.

I generally see most of the dealers at that show dealing in the vintage cards and such. There are a few new card guys, but you are probably wasting your $2 (I still can't believe anyone collects admission for shows these days, even if it is only a buck or two) if you only collect newer cards.

Speaking of the admission, I thought about going on Saturday, but my wife was working so I had my two boys, 7 (he turned 8 on Sunday) & 9. Neither care about cards at this point and I might have been able to talk my way out of paying admission for them if I really tried, but just for me to go would have cost me $6 to get in. Again, I will not be heading to the poor house over $6, but I certainly am not going to pay that just to look at cards. I know the fee helps with door prizes and possibly admin costs, but it just doesn't make sense is such a sluggish market. I wonder if it really does hurt their attendance. I went to DJ's instead.

LOL! My birthday was on Sunday!! Yeah, 2 bucks is bogus but I like to go and talk to a bunch of the dealers. Over the years I have become friends with a bunch of them so it is nice to go and chat about cards.

Small world indeed.

OK, just don't tell me that you were in the Everett Red Robin on Sunday evening...

We had a guy approach us while we were cutting his B-Day cake and he gave my son $5. It was his birthday as well and he had faired well at the casino the previous couple of days and wanted to share the wealth with another 6/3 birthday boy! He showed my neighbor his license to prove it was his birthday too, but it was too far away from me and I didn't see his name.

LOL! My birthday was on Sunday!!

TONS of new stuff in mostly from COMC but a couple from trades and eBay. Mostly harder to find inserts which I love!

Then lots for my High Priority Brad Lincoln PC. A lot of these you wouldn't think are hard to find but truly are. The Just Stars is nearly impossible to find and I was glad to pick it up for $3 on COMC. Adding a 1/1, a card /5, and a bunch of parallels is always nice :)

2010 Topps Peak Performance Autograph: Interesting card I've been trying to get for a while. Beckett actually doesn't recognize this one but there have been probably around 5-10 eBay auctions for it over time. Not sure if it wasn't supposed to be made or what. The Blue "Peek Performance" from 2010 Update is the more recognized/available one (which I have as well).

Also got in about 10 parallels of Rich Harden from COMC as well as some Mets cards for Mike but this should be enough scans :)

Nice pickups! Who do you still need for the Nameplates and the Sigs?

I got these in the last couple of days.
