Does anyone have any experience removing personalizations from glossy cards, signed in sharpie? I have tried with an eraser before, and it kind of worked. I have a few cards I wouldn't mind removing the personalization from since it covers the entire card. I also hear there is a pen that "dissolves" the sharpie then you wipe it off. Anyways, look forward to hearing your methods!

I'm a teacher and had a sub one time take a red sharpie and write class instructions all over my whiteboard in my class room. I was told that if I write or trace over the sharpie ink with a dry erase maker (same color) it would come off and it does. Don't know if that would work on a card or not.

Yeah I read that somewhere also. I bet they are expensive though.

Very cheap. About $2.00 for a pack of two. I can tell you it takes tar off a rug.
If you try it I wouldn't get the kind with the rough scrubber side, just get the original. Try it on a card you dont need first. Maybe sign one yourself and give it a day to dry, then test it.

I've taken ruined autos off of glossy card by using a q-tip dipped in alcohol, or the stuff that my daughter uses to put he ear rings in after she takes them out. It works great, I practiced a few times on commons before I did in on the real deal. Also you will need tissues or TP to wipe the alochol and ink off the card, away from the auto. :)

I've also cleaned ink with (isopropyl) rubbing alcohol.

I agree on this one. I did on a couple of cards and it works, If you do it softly with a Q-tip dipped in alcohol it should work just don't let drip over the autograph try to quickly dry it with the unused tip or a tissue paper. :)

Is there a certain amount of time you have to try to get it off? I have a 8x10 I got signed by Chad Hennings I would love to get a personalization off....I have had it about 4-5 months.

Excuse me for being naive, but what would be the reasoning for wanting to remove a personalization?

I usually don't... but some players sign their name real big and then inscribe it super big also, so the card looks horrible. Also, I have had this happen a few times where the player will inscribe the card to someone other than me, like Joe or something (no joe in my house!). Another thing that happened to me was a player signed a GU card and it smeared BAD, so I want to clean it off and retry :)

Easiest way is a dry erase marker. I've done it plenty of times and it doesn't get as messy as the alcohol & Q-tip.

If you want to see how it works just take an unsigned card you don't care about & wright on it with a sharpie. Then go over it with the dry erase marker & wipe it off with a tissue.
