07/02/12 Update: Check out post # 9 for my "Day Two" autographs - mostly photos I took on Sunday afternoon. Walmart screwed up my order so I had a number of duplicates that I offered to the players. Much to my surprise, they all accepted and were quite excited over them.

--------

It was a good 'graphing day!

Kickham pitched a great game shutting out the hometown Aeros.

The 8x10 photos are my own.

It was also a good picture-taking day so I may show up with more of my work autographed later this week, schedule permitting.

The 2011 Topps Heritage tints are for my set. Most everything else is available. Let me know if you have any tints autographed.

Regards,

Michael

Michael,

I am planning on going to an Aeros game soon to get some autographs. Any tips?

Eric

Eric,
I've gotten autographs on five occasions this season and it's been great. Search my other posts for images, etc., if you like. Early in the season I was pretty understocked on minor league singles so the autographs were fewer but the opportunity was there... just wasn't prepared.

Visiting players start coming out of the dugout about 20-30 minutes before the game starts. If you are there by 6:30 pm you won't miss anyone. Hang out along the rail and around the dugout and you will do well. AA-players are very accomodating. I can usually knock out most everyone I want and then get to the Aeros side and pick up a few there.

After the game, you can get the bullpen guys as they are walking to the dugout. Occasionally a position player stops, too,... seems more likely that it's those that weren't playing. I've seen players hand up cracked bats to kids (we've not had any luck). It empties pretty quickly.

Outside the park, the visiting team's bus is sitting right on Main St. near the main entrance to the park... just outside the media/player entrance. The tough part is recognizing the players. I haven't tried this too often but you can do well if you know what you are after.

For Aeros after that game, you can also walk around the block - clockwise from the main entrance to where third base would be located outside the park off Exchange St - and get complete access to the player's parking lot. Look for foul balls that cleared the stadium in this area if you have time. Security is there protecting cars, I guess, so be quick and don't look suspicious. There is a player exit and they come out in a nice, manageable stream. Again, recognition is the tough part.

Free parking on the city streets after 6 pm, $6 for a bleacher seat (which I never sit in) and between myself and the kids, we've picked up at least a dozen game balls (foul balls and the ones players throw into the seats at the end of the inning). You can't beat the value especially if you arrive completely fed.

It's a great venue and so much more relaxed than Progressive Field.
Let me know when you are going and maybe it will fit my schedule and we can meet.
I hope to get down there a couple more times before the season is over. Altoona coming soon (Gerrit Cole!).

Good luck,

Michael

Players were signing machines tonight and they were digging my photography. I owe pictures to many.
Seriously, all this activity was completed over a <10 minute period - it was nuts!

Gary Brown - this guy is high energy and you can see the talent stand out amongst the rest of the players. He can't be at AA too much longer. Very happy to have gotten this 8x10 signed!

Joel Weeks - plays catcher and second base. Very courteous.

Great stuff man!!! Are any of the Heritage Minors (regular) cards for trade by chance? Shoot me a PM and maybe we can work something out :) If nothing else, maybe I could send you my unsigned copies of cards and get something for you in return?

Wow! That's a haul! Every time I see those '70's cards, like the '79 Grimsley, I can't help but laugh at the memory of '70's hair. Those long perms look nasty, but that was the style. I know...I was hitting the disco scene back then. I sure don't miss the hair...but I just wish I had a little more of it today.

Great success from future S F Giants!!!

I'm telling ya... Gary Brown stands out amongst his peers at the moment. He looks like he might be a good one. Great speed, good instincts and his motor is running constantly. I also like that he hikes up his pants to show the long stockings... a real ballplayer, for sure!

Grimsley and I had a chuckle over his 1979 Topps mop. I made a "love the hair" comment after he had already signed the first two and handed them back (just in case I ticked him off!). It was what it was at the time!
