I see they are offering the sets separately as well. It is possible that the entire group won't go to one winner.

The break-up potential for that group is insane. Wish I had the bucks, but I'd want to keep most of it anyway!!

I'm wondering if the owner of the set had a connection at Topps or in MLB to get it all done. That's the only thing I could think of.

It could have been someone very active in autograph collecting who obtained a good amount in person. In those days, autographs were much easier to obtain at games, shows, private signings and such. Purchase some toughies along the way, do some trading and you could do it w/o special connections if you had the passion, funds and time.
