Just another thread topic to see if we can get some conversations started here on The Bench!

We have a thread for professional football - here is the one for those that prefer the collegiate version.

Of course, it may start and end with Alabama/Clemson and further discussion is needed. Is the SEC the best conference in the land? Mack Brown back with the Tar Heels - nice come back win against an SEC squad in South Carolina to start his 2nd stint in Chapel Hill.

Who do you got..and what do you know?

Not sure what the high end matchup is this weekend - guessing Clemson/Texas AM. Clemson hasn't won by less than 20 in their last 18 games or something like that - they are in danger of becoming a dynasty if they keep it up. And I sure do like Dabo a whole lot better than Nick!!!

Gutsy effort by Army. They had a couple of chances to beat Michigan.

I only saw the highlights of this one, but man - that would have been a bigger upset than the App. State game years ago.

Clemson destroyed Texas A&M on the road (truly on the road). And than had to listen to Saban whine about people questioning the Alabama schedule - as they should, they don't play anybody, and if they do - it is either at home or a neutral site, somewhere in the south. Saban isn't going to do anything to screw up his chances at the playoffs every year. He knows favorable SEC bias the playoff committee has and all he has to do is make it through the season with no more than one loss, and he is in the final four.

North Carolina is now 2-0 after knocking off da U. Mack Brown magic baby!

Can Syracuse throw another scare into clemson this weekend? Haven't looked to closely at the schedule, but didn't see any games that looked potentially epic....

Marylan put a beat down on Syracuse last weekend so I am not very optimistic about their chances against Clemson. And I am tired of hearing about Michigan and Harbaugh every year. He is fine as long as they are playing Northwestern or Illinois.

It was a good weekend for Maryland football fans - UofM big win and the Ravens lit up the hapless Dolphins...

Couldn't agree more on Harbaugh - he makes it even easier to dislike the school in Ann Arbor!

As a Buckeye I hope TTUN keeps Harbough around for a long time

Once Tressel put a gate up at the border and kept the best players in Ohio the rivalry shifted in our favor. MSU has also helped us out by recruiting and landing many Ohio kids who otherwise might have gone to Xichigan. OSU cannot offer every good recruit capable of playing D1 as they just don't have enough room.

The last two Heisman winners for them were both from Ohio. Howard from Cleveland and Woodson from Fremont. Woodson played in the same HS league and graduated in the same yr as Orlando Pace (Sandusky) and Damon Moore (Fostoria), both of whom were Bucks and went on to the NFL. Two NFL HOF's came from the same class, yr and league in Northwest OH!

You have got to wonder how much longer Michigan can afford to be getting beat by the Buckeyes. If they lose 3 or 4 games this year then I really expect him to be gone. The luster of Jim Harbaugh has worn off.

If the Buckeyes win the matchup this year - you have to believe that Harbaugh is gone...

For the rest of the season though, it doesn't look like it will matter -- can almost put Clemson/Alabama on tap for the championship game. They both look to be cruising all the way home....

The better matchups this week:

Michigan/Wisconsin -- Wisconsin is favored by a FG. Can only imagine the leash gets a bit tighter for Harbaugh if the Badgers win this one.

Notre Dame/Georgia -- Georgia is -14.Will it be a blowout or will it be close like two years ago in South Bend.

How long does Willie Taggert have left at FSU. Year 2 is looking uglier than year 1.

Back and forth in Tallahassee this afternoon - actually got to watch a good portion of this game. Wasn't pretty, but the Noles got a much needed win!

Alabama/Clemson still seem on a collision course for the playoffs. Although LSU looks like it may have a QB and the ability to put points on the board this time around!

Wisconsin stomps a mudhole in Michigan and walks it dry! How many more times can Michigan fans listen to the words "we got outcoached" after a loss to a ranked team???

I was actually surprised that Michigan got beat that bad. Harbaugh just looks like he has no idea what he is doing. Ohio State looked great again but the competition may have just a little to do with it. We will see what happens when they start playing some half way descent competition.

I am not surprised they lost, as Camp Randall Stadium is not an easy place to win, but as you say, surprised they got beat THAT bad. We were listening to that game on the radio in the car yesterday, couldn't believe Michigan ran a trick play with a defensive lineman in the middle of the field, that is normally goal line stuff.

Georgia escapes with a win against ND - that should push ND out of the playoff picture, without a conference championship to rely on to re-boost their stock, they can't afford to have any hiccups during the regular season. And I guess we can add Georgia to the list of teams vying for the Final Four. Right now I see it as - Clemson/Alabama/Georgia/LSU/Ohio State - nobody from the PAC-12 or BIG 12 has impressed me yet.

Oklahoma may be in the mix. But just maybe. The only thing that may help Ohio State and Oklahoma is if they go undefeated and the SEC teams beat up on each other.

You are correct - I totally blanked on Oklahoma. Jalen Hurts seems to be fitting in very nicely there. Wonder if Riley can get a third straight QB to win the Heisman. I would expect one (if not two), of the SEC teams to be out of the mix come playoff time.

Not a lot of big matchups this weekend - looks like Uva v. Notre Dame is the cream of the crop. Other than that, looks like a bunch of games for Heisman hopefuls to get fat on.

The Tar Heels come within a two point conversion of knocking off Clemson in Chapel Hill. I honestly thought they had it - they played Clemson extremely tough the entire way!

Some top 25 matchups this weekend - Michigan State/Ohio State and than the big one - Auburn v. Florida at The Swamp. Have to assume that whichever one loses that game is out of the national title hunt.

Saw that Florida whupped up pretty good on Auburn. Seems like this might be just another year in which the SEC is perceived as really, really good, but in reality, the teams are all just average and their pre-season rankings keep them looking pretty in the polls.

Will have to wait and see how it all plays out towards the conference championships.
