Figured I would try something a little different - instead of just picking topics that are of interest to me and starting a random thread about them. Let's start a thread that is open for discussion on a daily basis, for whatever the hot sports topic of the day is.

Yesterdays headlines, from what I saw are these:

1 - NFL - Big Ben retiring?
2 - NCAA Hoops - #1 (Nova), #2 (Kansas), #4 (Kentucky) all lose - Is Gonzaga really the #1 team in the nation right now?
3 - PGA Tour - Farmers Insurance Open - Tigers return to competitive golf.
4 - NBA - Lebron whining about not having enough good players on the team and the owner not spending enough - although Lebron basically hand picked this team himself and they are already paying $35 million in luxury tax

What do I care about - no chance Ben retires. Too early in the season to care who is #1 in the NCAA. Lebron is always crying about something. That leaves Tigers return - can't wait to see how he does this weekend at Torrey Pines. If he is top 30 heading into the weekend, the rating will skyrocket for the event and you can watch him start moving that needle once again.

Hopefully this little idea will catch on and we can get some good conversations going!

All we ever hear about is how Tiger is coming back. I have been hearing about his return to greatness since 2008. Has even made a cut since then? We need to face the fact that he will never be what he once was. Father Time is undefeated.

I will have no beef with Gonzaga, would just like to see them make it to the Final Four once before anyone says they truly belong among the elite. And you know me Chief - Carolina..and anyone playing Dook!

Completely agree that Father Time is undefeated - But Tiger finished T6 at The Masters in 2014? And was PGA Player of The Year in 2012? - winning 5 tournaments I believe, including The Players Championship. Love him/Hate him, Tiger moves the needle. The needle moving = $$$$ to the networks.

The Majors are what counts now for Woods. I do not care about the Waste Management Open. When he is in the final round on Sunday at Augusta or the British Open then call me. Everyone knows the networks want Tiger on top again. For that matter so do the other players. Woods brought more money in for everyone. But I would be willing to bet that his days are behind him and he will never see another major.

He has his money and rings...and the longer u play the more likely the injuries will carry into your retirement age. He'll probably play one or two more years. Best regards, David

As interesting as these topics are, I'm really rooting for Serena to get her 2 more Grand Slam titles. Father Time is indeed undefeated, however she seems to have slowed his roll, just a bit. If she can just get those last 2....

Can't get excited about womens tennis - Serena is like UConn womens hoops - when the outcome is 99.99% assured before the event is played, just don't have the interest in it.

I don't get LeBron's complaints since the Cavs management just got universal props for trading for 3 point specialist Kyle Korver, which many experts said made the Cavs the favorite to win the title, even over Golden State.. LeBron may want to address the guys on his own team for losing at home Sunday to the Spurs who were without 2 starters ( Parker and Gasol) and then losing the next night to the Pelicans (Fly Pelican,Fly!!) who were without their only star player (Anthony Davis).

But somehow the Spurs beat his Cavs without Parker and Gasol and then turn around and beat the Nets on Tuesday without Parker, Gasol, Ginobili and their best player Kawai Leonard and then beat Toronto the very next night without Parker, Gasol, Leonard and Jonathan Simmons who is a vital part of their rotation. And all three games were on THE ROAD. Good thing LeBron is not on the Spurs. Can you imagine the complaints form him in that scenario, not to mention their record for those 3 games?

That may be the equilibrium statement - he is still talented. he can still win..BUT, if it isn't a major, it really doesn't help his legacy.

exactly my point about LeBron - he never stops complaining, it is always something. Get me more players, get me better players, spend more money, play me less, get me a different coach, etc. etc. They are going to cruise in the East, why not just take a game every now and than and flush it, give them all the night off. I mean seriously, how often did MJ play 82 games a year..oh wait, MJ played every game/every minute like it was the last he was ever going to play!

Not quite like UConn hoops, more like Tiger in his heyday:)

Fair assessment - UConn womens hoops is a league of their own.

Decent start yesterday, let's keep it going today...

1 - NBA - Kevin Love for Carmelo Anthony
2 - NCAA - another two Top Ten teams go down - Florida State and UCLA
3 - Tennis - a geriatric convention in the finals at the Aussie Open - The Williams sisters AND Federer move on.

I will go with tennis today - curious to see if Nadal can win his semi this evening and turn this Aussie into 2003 and not 2017!

There is no way Cleveland should make that trade. Love is 4 years younger than Anthony. And Carmelo is one of only three players who have a no trade clause in the NBA. Dirk and LeBron are the other two. The Knicks created this mess and Phil Jackson in particular. He is a disaster as a team president and should be fired today.

Thanks for keeping this going.

I LOVE the step back in time for the Aussie Open. There have been some instant classic matchups between Federer and Rafa.

Agree - no way I would make that trade. The Knicks in general are a disaster. Carmelo is not a player to build a championship franchise around. They would have been better off never having made the deal with Nuggets.

Thanks for keeping this going.

And this matchup would be on a hard court, not the clay that Rafa has dominated on in the past.

Love the thread! I know nothing about NBA basketball, but love March Madness and follow every game!

Crazy to think that tennis stars who are all younger than I am (I think!) are now the geriatric circuit....sports is a young person's endeavor!

Kevin Love's uncle Mike is the lead singer of the Beach Boys, not sure if everyone was aware!

Well it looks like LeBron's complaining worked "wonders" as the Cavs lost last night AT HOME to the mighty 18-27 Kings. And to make matters worse, Sacramento's best player shot 11 for 30.

The Cavs are lucky that the Raptors have fell on hard times as they have lost 5 in a row and are still only 3 games behind the Cavs. Very fortunate for Cleveland that their closest rival is doing worse than they are or the Cavs would be in full blown panic mode right now.

1 - NFL - Big Ben retiring?
*Sounds good to me. (Cowboys fan) I say relocate the franchise!

2 - NCAA Hoops - #1 (Nova), #2 (Kansas), #4 (Kentucky) all lose - Is Gonzaga really the #1 team in the nation right now?
*Looks that way. Nice squad. No chance to win it all. New blood doesn't seem to win in NCAA Basketball. Go Big Blue! BBN!

3 - PGA Tour - Farmers Insurance Open - Tigers return to competitive golf.
*Never been a golf fan. Prior to Christmas, I wouldn't have had an opinion on this one way or another. Once I seen "Mac Daddy Santa", no way could I openly cheer for Tiger. No man nips!

4 - NBA - Lebron whining about not having enough good players on the team and the owner not spending enough - although Lebron basically hand picked this team himself and they are already paying $35 million in luxury tax
*What do I think about LeBron/Cleveland... GO! CUBS! GO!

Thanks
Craig
