This is more of a rant than a question... but the decline in value of jersey/patch cards has really got me bummed. I used to collect any Cowboys jersey card... then I got tired of those so I switched to multi colored patch cards. I've always looked at the back of the card to see if it was from an actual game (Game-Worn). Those were always the coolest. Then they started to put "Game-Issued" which meant the player might not have even seen the jersey. It could have been in a giant rolling box filled with other players' reserve jerseys in case they needed a new one during the game. Then came along the dreaded "Event-Worn" jersey! Man, oh man... all I have to say about this is to look up a picture of Reggie Bush wearing about 30 jerseys at once, each one on top of the other. It was worn by him, they can put "Event-Worn"!! He was smart enough to beat whatever company at their own game and not keep taking jerseys off and putting another one on. The picture is pretty hilarious! Him grinnin' with his arms spread wide and no neck...
But that brings us to our current predicament.
"The Enclosed Authentic Memorabilia is Not From Any Specific Game or Event"
The jersey I wear on Sundays is AUTHENTIC!!! So what the companies are now saying is that they can buy a ton of jerseys from off the rack (or cheaper from the manufacturer themselves) and cut up the best patches and slap them on a card. We will all blindly go 'oooohh-aaaahhhhh.... a 4-color patch card!' Then get online or look in a magazine to find out the card would be worth more WITHOUT the patch. I say that because most of the nicer patch cards are numbered to /25 or less.
I say all this, but yet I'm going 'ooooohhh-aaaaaahhhhh' at the newest patch cards I acquired on The Bay. Luckily I won a few at or around BV. The ones I see for BIN are still outrageously over-priced! Why? Because people (me included) will buy them... and the companies KNOW we will keep buying them... that's why they're able to get away with duping us into collecting off-the-rack jerseys!

Does this mean my collection of game used underoos may not be game worn? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I've always been highly skeptical of this game worn, game used, stuff. How do we really know these are legit? One of the major companies was caught about 20 years ago faking this GU stuff and I think that hurt the trust in the hobby. 20/20, Dateline or one of those network magazine shows did a special on fake autographs in Cooperstown of all places. They estimated 70% of the autos there were fake and Tony Gywnn said every "autograph" of his being sold there were fake. So if they can do that in Cooperstown where players tend to frequently visit, then what makes you think card companies would not do similar?

I know we are not supposed to talk politics on this board but the former president weighed in heavily on the trustworthyness of this stuff.

Card compnies have collector's chasing their tails creating all this new crap which is simply MANUFACTURED SCARCITY which is a complete scam. Organic scarcity is one thing but what the card companies are doing is playing on collector's breathless greed which almost always backfires on them.

Milli vanilli is even skeptical about these cards being real.

I think auto's are mostly faked do you really think a player really sits there and signs all cards signature iss witnessed by a the Companies Employee yeah right as far as game-used or game worn I doubt it was worn in the game closest it ever got to the game is batting practice or bullpen warm up

I just bought three HOF autographs that I hope were legit but I cannot swear to it. I paid $55 for three autos of players that are deceased and they came with COAs......which doesn't mean that much because who certifies the person who amkes the COA? If they are fake, or autopenned, I'm only out $55 and not hundreds or thousands like people who buy low serial #d autographed cards. I always say " pay for the autograph, not the card". And when you are buying low serial numbered cads you are paying for the card, not the autograph.

Dez Bryant's early autos were obviously fake. They looked like artwork. Then his real autos emerged and it looked like a 3 year old learning their name. I had an Irvin/Bryant dual auto with his fake sig and once I found out/realized it wasn't Dez's sig I sold it for half of what i bought it for. Absolutely nothing was done about him having someone else sign those stickers. They're still out there being bought up like weed on sale!
