Seemed like an appropriate time to start up a thread to discuss all the big names changing teams this winter. Only a couple months until pitchers/catchers start reporting.

I know I will miss some of the deals....

Paxton - Mariners to the Yankees

Corbin - Diamondbacks to the Nationals

Segura - Mariners to the Phillies (gave up Santana, thank you!, and JP Crawford)

Cano/Diaz - Mariners to the Mets

Goldschmidt - Diamondbacks to the Cardinals

Give us your take on what YOUR team is doing/not doing..... Harper and Machado still out there for the taking.....

Diamondbacks are going to be a hot mess next season. Not thrilled with the return for Goldy but also don't think we could've gotten one of the top tier prospects from the Cardinals.

Whether or not the Giants move MadBum prior to spring training is the big discussion around here. They could get a huge haul of cheap prospects from a contending team, and with the new GM (ex Dodger GM) now on board, he will no doubt turn over many rocks. Final year of his (cheap) contract, he will no doubt command a large sum in 2020 in his initial free agent attempt.

Eovaldi just resigned in Boston, I'm hoping white sox do something big.

If he pitches like he did down the stretch, it will be a nice resigning by the Red Sox.

Nats GM has indicated that they have maxed out the deal they are offering to Harper - sounds like he will not be in Washington next year.

The Mets' new GM made quite a splash. We're holding our breaths to see whether Cano plays at the or close to his prior levels. Adding Diaz was a plus. Of course the jury will stay out until it is seen how the prospects we traded pan out. But as my buddy says: "Prospects are suspects."
Now talk is they are looking at Reamulto. Not sure they have enough prospect to get him, but they're saying either Conforto or Nimmo might be in the mix. While I like both of those guys, the chance to get a catcher of Reamulto's caliber warrants making the deal, if they can. Here's hoping!

The statement of prospects are just prospects is a wise one. Hypothetically, if oh so many years ago, the Yankees had decided to include Brien Taylor in a deal, what could they have received back? The Phillies just gave up on their "can't miss' SS prospect JP Crawford. Bowman products are littered with guys whose cards were hundreds of dollars one day...pennies the next.

The Nats getting Corbin indicates to me that they are serious about trying to stay atop the NL East for another couple years at least. The teams may not be great, but the division should be competitive.

The Yanks are saying they have no interest in Bryce Harper...and I believe them.

Latest rumor is White Sox, Phillies or...???? - I know there was a third team mentioned and I can't recall it. Maybe heading to Vegas to find out would do me some good.....

Some keep bouncing Harper to St. Louis. As much as I would love that, and was all for it, I am starting to lean towards using the money per that they would give to Harper and sign Britton and Andrew Miller for the bullpen and bring in Lance Lynn to maybe be a bullpen/starter piece. Take the chance on Fowler returning to form and/or Tyler O'Neill cutting down on the Ks and showing his power. But man, Harper would look awesome in a Cardinals uniform.

Would love a lineup of:

Matt Carpenter (L)
Paul DeJong (R)
Paul Goldschmidt (R)
Bryce Harper (L)
Marcell Ozuna (R)
Yadier Molina (R)
Dexter Fowler (S)
Kolten Wong (L)

***Could flip Goldschmidt and Harper if need be. Having Goldschmidt and Ozuna behind Harper would force pitchers to pitch to him.

I am still not sold on the Yankees not being in on Harper. I could see them pulling off a trade and moving Stanton, and using that money and bringing in Harper.

The Mets were mentioned early on re: Harper, but I don;t see any way that happnes given the Wilpons' penurious ownership. Talk now is a three way trade involving Mets/Marlins/Yankees and Reamulto, but if it involves Thor, I say no way. Conceivably, however, could the Yanks throw Stanton back to the Marlins as part of such a deal in hopes (per the above) of clearing room for Harper?
Time will tell.
@Katester, if you have enough frequent flyer miles, go for it!

Before resigning Eovaldi, the Sox also signed Steve Pearce. Athought not a starter, he does platoon well with Moreland at first.

I'm worried about the bullpen without Kimbrel. I know that Eovaldi will be considered in the pen somewhere but he's much more valuable as a fifth starter. That is unless the Sox are considering going the way of the Rays and use an "opening" pitcher for maybe Rodriguez and whoever they pencil in at the fifth spot.

Some interesting info being thrown around...

I had heard rumors of Stanton to the Dodgers. Even if he goes, and Harper is signed, they still have the problem of two RF's in the Bronx.

The Phillies just signed McCutchen 3years/$45 million...seems a bit excessive.

If I go back to Vegas....there is a chance I never come back - I love that place. I would prefer that the meetings come back to National Harbor in Maryland, than I can do a day trip.

Harper would play centerfield.

Ivan Nova traded to the White Sox. Will that take them out of the Harper sweepstakes.

And I was off by $5 million on the McCutchen deal...3 years/$50 million -- seems even more excessive now. Hopefully it is backloaded and has a team option.

Not a huge fan of either guy, but hoping that either (or both) Harper/Machado decide to sign in Philly.

Harper in CF in The Bronx - just doesn't feel like a fit, he may be a bit too thin skinned to handle NYC.

Re: Harper, I was addressing the issue raised i.e. the Yanks having two right fielders. As far as him being too thin skinned, Washington can be pretty tough on its athletes (tho' not like the NY media), but I suspect he would be practically canonized in NY and would be pointed at Judge and told: 'Be like Aaron." He had no one in D.C. of that caliber/comportment, and it just might work.
That being said, I don't see it happeneing. the Yanks have, uncharasteristically shown some restraint this off-season (e.g. Happ), and have greater needs than another outfielder (though Harper would help balance out the lefty-righty lineup) i.e. infield where Gregorious is out for an extended period and Andujar, though they love his bat, is a defensive liability at 3rd. I think they focus more on Machado.
Who knows? But it sure is fun watching all the pieces move around and fall into place!!!

Twins signed 2nd baseman Jonathan Schoop to one year contract. Best regards, David

Hope he plays better in Minnesota than he did in Milwaukee down the stretch!!!

McCutchen did have a team option associated with his contract - the 4th year. It is like Philadelphia just enjoys flushing $$$ down the drain. If you are going to overpay, overpay for pitching, both starting and bullpen!

Santana is back with Cleveland
Encarnacion to Seattle
Diaz to Tampa
Bauer to Cleveland

Money is going from Seattle and Tampa to Cleveland.

How long before Seattle trades Encarnacion to Colorado? 2 weeks?

I am still trying to figure that trade out.....who wins, who loses? I think Philadelphia wins, since they no longer have Santana????

Listening to MLB Network and Baseball Tonight folks on ESPN -- no one has a clue where the two big boys are going. But Boras did earn his commission for Bryce by throwing together a 196 page report on why Harper should be signed....

The funniest thing to come out of Hot Stove so far is Kimbrel asking to be the first $100 million closer. Is there anyone, I mean anyone, who is ponying up 6 years/$100 million for Kimbrel at this point? I guess if I was a GM, I would offer that deal, but make years 2-6 team option years.

I have no idea what the Indians are doing. It looks like we are back to the "Tribe is Cheap" days. Santana was a good player for Cleveland in the past. He is durable and Encarnacion's bat is starting to slow down. He is still owed a ton of money and can only DH at this point. But with Encarnacion, Alonso and Gomes all gone, it is hard to see where they are going.
