Tonight was Tiger Friday at the West Michigan Whitecaps game and the guest was Richie Hebner "The Grave Digger". I got two cards, two bobbleheads, and a baseball signed. I dont have a camera right now so only the cards are pictured. I also got Antonio Cruz before he left town with his new team.

If anyones interested in a Hebner card I have a 81 Topps available as well as the 81 Fleer.

I'll have to go double check but think my Hebner is smudged a little bit, if it is I'd be intrested in 1 of em. I'll probably be at tommorrow night's game, have a ton of Castellanos to get done still

Just let me know. I will also be getting some autos after tommorows game. I still have a few cards to knock out, and add new players to my bat.

Very nice. Why was Richie called "the grave digger."?

I didnt know the reason at first, but I read an article about his appearance here. His family owns a cemetery in Massachusetts and during the off season he literally dug graves for a job. Heres a picture of the bobbleheads they gave away. Its definitely something different.

Hebner's powerful wrists came from digging graves in the off season. He had one of the most unusual stances early in his career, with a low crouch, and his hands down around his knees. You had to be really strong to hit like that, and he did it well. In the '81 Fleer you see him later in his career, standing up a bit straighter, and his hands held higher. On a side note, Hebner ended his career with the Cubs. When then manager, Dallas Green, called him into his office that last time he said, and I'm not making this up, "It's time to dig graves during the summer, too, Richie."

well a good chunk are 50/50's that I said I'd do at the beginnng of the year and they finally sent to me now...so if you don't need him on anything and we at the same game if he will sign multiples and ya wanna help me out I could throw a card your way. As I was going thru my extra's I realized that I have him on 74 Topps also that I'll just replace with the semi smudged one.
