I enjoy reading some of the success threads to see what people are getting in the way of autographs. Usually there is at least 1 or more cards I would love to have, but never really thought about until I see them.

My question to those who actively seek TTMs is this:

Besides the obvious themes many people are chasing (Hofers, Stars, Mets, 1976 Topps, 1983 Fleer, Seattle, etc), do most of you have a direction with regard to your TTMs or are some of you just sending to anyone they think will sign?

I ask this because I see a lot of threads with an obvious pattern to the cards, but others seem completely random with some really interesting and odd names. Perhaps there is something I am unaware that links these players together, but mostly it just appears that some are going for quantity over quality.

I don't have a solid set of rules when it comes to obtaining autographs, but generally they fall into one of several categories (Dodgers, players on other teams who played for the Dodgers, AS members, HOFers, Award winners, league leaders, action photos on vintage cards, specials like multiplayers and league leaders, etc). I'm sure if someone looked through a few boxes of my signed cards, they might wonder the same thing about a few of the players I have as well and why did I select those.

As someone who has really just started sending off TTMs this year, I would say I don't have an overriding direction/theme. My main collection will be Brewers, so I will send off whatever I can find to Brewers (mainly focusing on players from the 2000s or easier older players like Plesac). However, I have sent off something to nearly every other major league team as well, and some minor league teams as well.

In some cases, it's more of a curiosity to see if some stars will sign (most likely because I have favorite cards of them that I would like to have signed). In other cases, it's either players who definitely seem like they will because they're fan-friendly (Logan Morrison, Will Clark) or players I'm trying to get before they become bigger stars and, presumably, sign less (Jerry Sands, Michael Pineda).

And sometimes I'll just do it when I see a success from someone else and I just ran across a card of that player. Javier reported a success (sort of) with Carlos Santana, and I just pulled one of those '64 Topps giant reprints from Topps Lineage, so I think that would be cool to have him signed.

In short, I'm targeting Brewers players, but am willing to try almost anyone else as time permits.

My goal is to send off any, and every, card I think I can get signed.
My collection of autographed cards is perfectly described as 'random'.
I have sent to retired guys who never played a day in the majors, and I have sent to HOF stars.
Every auto I get, I will happily put in my collection.
