Hey, all. I've been concentrating too much on 1987 Topps and other sets recently, but I received the following Tigers:
2010 Mike Ilitch (Tigers Franchise History Card) Topps 408
Mike Ilitch, without question, is one of the most important people in Detroit. We all love that he owns my Tigers and the Red Wings. But you might not know that he was a minor league ballplayer in his hometown Tiger organization. He started Little Caesar's Pizza and expanded it across the country. What I love most about Ilitch is that he is willing to spend money in order to get a winner. My Tigers had a TERRIBLE decade. But Mr. Ilitch started spending money and things changed in 2006. We got and kept Verlander. We picked up and kept Cabrera. We have Prince Fielder for nine years! (Yeah, I'm hoping years 4-9 of that contract will be okay. The point is that Ilitch wants to win.) Additionally, he is of Macedonian descent and several years ago, I had a big crush on a woman from Macedonia. I'm not really sure where I'm going with that.
Edited: Oh, I meant to point out that Ilitch is closely involved with the efforts to rebuild and enhance Detroit and its industry. It's great that he owns the Tigers and Red Wings, but it's arguably more important that he's trying to improve the Michigan economy in a number of ways.
1956 Bob Miller Topps 263
1955 Bob Miller Topps 9
Bob Miller (one of several Robert Millers in the league during that time) was a bonus baby for the Tigers. His 1955 and 1956 cards are particularly beautiful. Mr. Miller's career was interrupted--as were so many others--by military service. He didn't play in the league between 1957 and 1962. Both a starter and a reliever, he managed to hold Yogi Berra and Mickey Mantle to .250 and .273 batting averages, respectively.
