I entered a code from a Topps Million card giveaway and this came up:
This Card Unavailable 1956
- -
Card Number:
Series: Topps Series 1
You have 1 of this card

Along with an image that says "Card image unavailable".

It didn't say the code had been redeemed, only that the card and image are unavailable, but that I have one of the card.

Can anyone explain it?
Thanks.

There were a lot more of those originally which Topps later replaced with actual cards, but they never did get them all. If I were you I'd call Topps and ask them to research it and let you know which one you're getting.

I heard, via email, from Topps about the 1956 card that came through as "card/image unavailable" in the Million Card Giveaway.

Here's the response:
Our tech team is aware of this issue and is working on getting the rest of these images uploaded to the site.

Thanks for your patience

So I did a little checking on the million card giveaway site. Maybe there's something to this, possibly not...:)

I saw there were 24 slots in the 1956 set listed as "card/image unavailable".
Okay, there were also 299 of the 340 total cards in the set that had an image available, that have already been redeemed.

It's possible then, that the 24 cards listed as image unavailable may be among the 41 remaining cards. Have they not been bought back yet? Have thay not been redeemed, allowing a picture to accompany them? We don't know.

Anyway, I found out which cards are in the 41 that don't have an image yet.
Look at the list and see how many are Hall of Famers, and more interestingly, New York players. About half are in the HOF and about 40% come from the Giants, Dodgers and Yankees.

1 William Harridge
2 Warren Giles
5 Ted Williams
10 Warren Spahn
15 Ernie Banks
20 Al Kaline
25 Ted Kluszewski
30 Jackie Robinson
31 Hank Aaron
33 Roberto Clemente
54 Bob Keegan
72 1955 Philadelphia Phillies Team Card

WOW that is quite a list! I really hope you get one of those cards, should be a winner!

I can't even let myself think it's going to be one of those cards, but you know I am...!
Another interesting thing is, the cards that have no image all are available in small quantities. From 1-5.
Other cards in the set are available in dozens or more.
I would think the more valuable cards were bought in lesser quantities.
The 1978 Earl Weaver manager card lists 695!
