It pobably wouldn't work these days,
but what would you think if TOPPS
went back to the 50's & 60's way of
getting their cards out?
You know,releasing them in 4 or 5
different series.
Sorry, I was just thinking about the
"Good Old Days":)
Ken

i think that would be great!

the higher the number, the more scarce the card.

three series' sounds like a nice way to split them up, maybe everyone on the team can be included that way.

With hobby stores and the web it would work out better than the old days. When I was a kid the only way to get cards were at the local store. A penny for a pack of one or five cents for a fat pack, can't remember how many cards you got. In those days the local distributor many times would not even order the later series and just provide what he had as long as the cards would sell. Back in the late 50's and 60's I never knew anyone that put a complete set of topps together. Even with four brothers I never even got close always missing the high series cards.

I wouldn't mind seeing Heritage increase the set size
to 600 and break it down into 3 series.
Release them in March/June & September.
Maybe 25 SPs per,with series 3 including
updates(trades,rookies,etc).
The sub-sets could be spread out over the
entire issue.
Would this be better for set-builders,
more or less trades/more or less extras/
more or less money/more or less fun?
I don't know:confused:
Just a thought,
Ken

I think its a good idea,it surely will make completeing a full set even harder to chase down.

I don't know that it would make it any tougher overall, it would just take longer to get the cards. The biggest differences I see are most collectors don't complete a set or even a series pack by pack anymore. You buy hobby boxes, jumbo boxes, blaster boxes, and some packs. That kind of takes a lot of the challenge away compared to the 50's and 60's, between that and the widespread availability that comes with the internet age, there just isn't a challenge. If your local Target/shop doesn't carry 5th series, get online and order a box or two. I was a teenager in the mid 80's with a decent job in the summer, I'd go to the drugstore or card shows and buy a box or two at a time. It was probably the least fun time I collected. New cards would come out, I'd grab a rack box at the drug store/card shop/local show and have roughly 150 doubles to trade for the last 6 or so cards I needed.

I think a 4 or 5 series base set could work. I think if Topps or whoever were able to use images from within the season that would be cool. I just don't know if Topps is looking to put that kind of effort into a base set when they don't have any competition.

I'd love to see Topps do it with the Heritage set, as you mentioned.

I really liked the "High Number" Heritage series that Topps issued in '08 and '09.
