With the tremors from the Parkinson's disease, they would have to make it from cuts.

Maybe a cut, but I doubt it. They would need his permission, and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't do it. Same with a Kareem/Alcindor dual.

Why would they need his permission ? If it was a cut from something like the signature from a check I wouldn't think the signer would legally have any rights to what happens to/with it. Or an in person auto ? I would think once the celebrity hands the signed piece of paper back to the fan they would lose all rights to it.

Well, that may be so, not sure. But they wouldn't be able to put his name or likeness anywhere on the card. I'm sure it would attract lots of attention, but I doubt any card company would risk the legal grey area. Just my opinion, could be one in '10 Topps Series 2!

This seems true, but I would also believe that a player/person could sue if the company used his/her name to promote the selling of a product without their explicit consent.

This does bring up some good questions. Do the companies have permission from the families/etc. of deceased presidents? What about the cut sigs of guys like Napoleon Bonaparte? Chief Sitting Bull? Jimi Hendrix? John Lennon? All of those guys were redemptions via the "Mystery Cuts", and they were not used in the advertising process.

Playing the devil's advocate, I can see both sides of it. My guess is that a company could use the sig as long as they did it via the "Mystery" redemption - and NEVER use that person's name to promote the product. Otherwise, they better have permission.

Tim

Yea, hadn't thought of that Tim. No way they could promote that the card was in the set. As for presidents, I always heard that you could use elected official's images and words without consent. Not sure it that's true, but I've read that somewhere. And of course, what you read on the internet is 100% factual.

well heres a cut they can take it from....autoed ALI aka CLAY
