Topps National Chicle - NFL
"Football Stars - Painted Series"
24 packs per box and 8 cards per pack
'Look for 2 Autographs and 1 Relic Card in every box'

No info as of this writing on www.topps.com

I received the following:

143 base cards (including SP's)
jpg239.jpg

The painted cards have a matte finish. The cards I received have stars from the past as well as current stars and rookies. Veteran stars such as Montana, Jim Brown, and Marino are included in the set. The reverse has a rather extensive story of the player's strengths and highlights. Also featured is a short info blip of the artist that painted the card.

These cards should be good for the player collector and the set builder as well. They will also be great for the folks who like to get cards autographed. The finish on the card will be great for autos.

This issue is an interesting issue for me. Several of the artists have placed the players in vintage gear and vintage jerseys - some of the players nearly look silly - compared to the all out gear that is worn today. I can see these cards being some that collectors will either love or hate - and nothing in between.

The Cook auto - is in silver. After talking with some others that have ripped a bunch of this, this is the color of all of the Cook autos - it isn't a 'special' or limited auto - just a different color. Both autos are stickers --- booooo! If there ever was a card that would accept an auto - this is it.

The game used card is designed in a way that indicates to me that there are some double and triple relic cards out there.

Overall grade A-- get the autos on the card!!!!

Go rip several boxes and send the Crabtree cards to me!!

Some of this "artwork" is scary, admittedly.

Could use 80's-era 49ers, though. Looks like Montana and Rice are the only ones in this set. (Just base; save the Montana GOTG insert for someone who needs it.) Could use the Hines Ward base if you pulled it also.

Nice review Duane. Would love the Hartline if your not keeping it. I'm sure I can find something for you, plus some stamps as always.
