Odd that it took a lawsuit to nudge Upper Deck into actually paying MLB what they owed them for 2009, so it's no wonder MLB was so aggressive in defending their property.

Upper Deck also agreed it will not airbrush, alter or block MLB marks in future products.

That, I don't get. Now they can't issue anything that uses the regular photo catalog. I don't see how, or why this would be part of the settlement, unless MLB was just really looking to stick it to UD.

One comment bother me: "The real winners are the fans".... How because now we can only choose Topps?

MLB didn't want collectors to be "confused" about what was official...really?!?!...newer collectors have only really known UD and Topps...I think it would be more confusing wondering why they are no longer around.

I agree, it makes no sense to say " the real winners are the fans/collectors"
Enjoy busting only topps products for the rest of the year!
Hopefully this isn't the end of UD.

"Great cards of great players have always been the cornerstone of Upper Deck products,” added Upper Deck Founder and CEO Richard McWilliam. “We’ll just have to see how innovative and creative we can become now.”

"Innovative and creative???" Let's see how innovative and creative they can be now!!!

I guess that means the return of Comic Ball (after which, they'll be sued by Warner Bros. as well).

What are they going to do? Just use a headshot? Bye-Bye Upper deck.

I also miss Donruss, for some reason I really liked the 2005 DK set. I'm glad I still have options in all other sports. I tend to only buy UD products because they seem to carry the best hits, even with redemptions. Plus the cards have always looked better.

Bye-Bye Upper deck.

agreed...the end is in sight

After waiting two months on a response from QA at Upper Deck about a damaged patch card, I was given a big REFUSE for a replacement card.
E-Mailed back and said I will no longer buy Upper Deck product (old or new), also ended the email with - 'good luck to your company as I know you will need it'
