That is truly amazing. To find one 1/1 of your player is tough enough but to have 70+, that is a supercollector. Good luck with The Benchies.

Wow. That is a fantastic collection. Very impressive collection you have.
How did you pick your player?

I bow to your collection, love it!

What are the 8 non-1/1 cards you are missing?

Sorry to see your guy was in 05 Topps Total, those 8 different plates are killer to locate:)

Thanks! I'd like to get to 100 some day, but at this rate (only 1 card in 2010, which was an SGA at that), it won't be happening any time soon. Just need Topps to put him in a Moments & Milestones set, I'd like that (I actually would, and not just for the 1/1s). Missed four on eBay (six, if you include another two that sold before I started collecting), and I can't entice the owners to sell.

Thanks---I saw Gomes play in AAA, and he was a lot of fun to watch. Played all out and had fun doing it, not to mention that he hit well and in clutch situations.

Hehe, can I get a picture of that? 05 Total actually wasn't that bad. I have 3 of the 8 plates (one is signed by Houser), which, at 37.5% percent, is only slightly lower than my 1/1 average (40%). I also like the dual signed (IP) card a lot. The 8 cards are:

2002 Just Prospects Prototypes 17
2004 Skybox Autographics Prospects Endorsed Dual Jonny Gomes/Andruw Jones AJJG Auto (redemption probably not fulfilled---would check it off the list if I got one of the redemption cards for it)
2004 Skybox LE Artist Proof 124 /50
2005 SPx SPx Signature Spectrum 65 /10 Auto
2005 Upper Deck Platinum 412 /5
2006 Bowman Originals 2004 Bowman Chrome Refractors /2 Auto
2006 Upper Deck Special FX Blue 443
2007 Fleer Autographics AU-GO Auto

Anyone want an easy 40 bucks? Offered for any of the above. $20 for the redemption.

Very nice. Love the mini wood. It must take a lot of work
and $ to get that many 1/1's.

:)

I kind of compare my Choi collection to yours in that they have around the same number of cards and are sort of obscure. Biggest difference is I only have to worry about a total of 54 1/1's. I've managed to find 2 of the plates from 05 Topps Total for 25% which is lower than my average for 1/1's overall at 38.9%.

I also am missing these for Choi--

2004 Skybox LE Artist Proof 124 /50
2006 Upper Deck Special FX Blue 443

You want the picture to be a front of back? :p

Thanks! Don't make me think of the money involved in this:eek:

There are actually two mini woods (three, if you count yo... uh, nevermind:) ), 2006 and 2007. The 2006 I bought for more than it was worth, while I forgot to bid on the 2007 card (was out of town, forgot to bid on two 1/1s---years later, I also ended up with the second). Around the same time, flightposite sent me a note that he had a coupe Jonny Gomes base cards, and asked for my address. I tried to negotiate with the winner of the card, but he didn't seem to have any interest in selling it. Soon after flightposite's package came, with a note that said "here are your Jonny Gomes commons. I thought I had more than I did, sorry." No commons inside that package---turns out that he and another member had extremely graciously decided to buy me a nice card for my collection---amazingly, that same card would be one that I did not bid on.

Yikes, what kind of mind do you have!?!?!? (I know, after the above comment, I'm one to talk...) But don't worry about it, especially now that I'm worried about what sort of picture you might conjure up:D Yeah, PLEASE don't post a pic!

Have you seen any of the missing cards for Choi? I've never seen any of mine. I also think that the 2007 Autographics might never have been produced---I have two of the plates for it, but Upper Deck has released plates for cards that were never made before.

25% or 37.5% doesn't really mean much, I suppose; it's like batting .600 after give at bats. At any rate, I kind of like the 1/1s---some of them look really nice, and it feels good when you find one.

Are you entering your Choi collection in the Benchies? I'd like to see that again!

No picture, no problem--did not feel like wearing a speedo anyway (we need a vomit icon):p

I've seen a couple of the missing cards but not as many as I would've thought by now. I know a few of them must not have been produced but have not been able to confirm it.

I love the 1/1's but only find about 1-3 a year if I'm lucky. Got so bored a few years ago I decided to go for the entire print run of Choi but even that dried up in terms of trading.

No Choi in the Benchies this year, the collection gets knocked out early every year so I'm pulling it:) My only entry will be the ***** League collection in the Theme section.

Amazing collection, got to ask 2 questions.

1. Do you think he'll resign with the Reds in the off season?

2. Do you sport a mohawk?

Meliah: Yeah, not many 1/1s show up. This year This year actually hasn't been so bad, however---already six 1/1s, including four from 2007 or earlier. At that rate, I should have all 191 by March of 2023.

2009 Topps Unique MLB Logo auto
2007 Fleer Authgraphics Magenta Printing Plate
2006 Flair Showcase Black Printing Plate
2006 Flair Showcase Signature Cyan Printing Plate
2007 Upper Deck Premier Emerging Stars dual autograph (BJ Upton)
2009 Topps 206 Mini Yellow Printing Plate

bongo870: Thanks!

Kekamba: Thank you!

1) I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised. The Reds have a $1,750,000 2011 club option with a $200,000 buyout, so he'd be fairly cheap to maintain. They declined arbitration last year because they were afraid that they wouldn't be able to afford paying a few million more, eventually signing him just before spring training. While one or two extra million definitely matters to the Reds, I expect that they would have drafted the 2011 option with the expectation that they would be able to afford it should they want to keep Gomes.

This year they've spent $1,150,000 on him, and he'll probably earn another $150,000 in performance bonuses (needs 60 more plate appearances).

2) Nope, I've got this absurd penchant for highlights and spikes. Besides, the mohawk is more of a Rays tradition, and now that he's with the Reds, I'm not even sure that he has one anymore.

Jack: Already have a couple, but thanks for the offer!
