Extremely happy to get this one. Fantastic pitcher and prominent Senator...

Jim Bunning 1/1 OMLB with "HOF 96" and "To Clayton"

Took a chance and wrote a pretty sweet LOR if i must say so myself :)

My nephew recently saw Bunning's perfect game on MLB network and after learning that this guy not only was a HOF pitcher but also a US Senator, he started reading about him online. He was extremely surprised to get this today!

I'm glad I actually got to see Bunning pitch in person back in the day. Okay, he got his clock cleaned by the Astros in the 'dome, 10-7, but it was still cool watching that side armer pitch. Talk about consistency, he had more than 100 wins in each league, and a no hitter in both major leagues. He also was SECOND on the all time strikeout list when he retired from the game. It's a shame it took so long to get that call from the Hall, but I'm glad it finally happened.

Thanks, Jim..It really is odd that it took the veterans committee to get him inducted.Like you said, he was behind only Walter Johnson in K's when he retired..Other interesting facts I learned about Bunning while sending this request:
1 of only 7 pitchers to throw a perfect game and an additional no-hitter
the other six(Randy Johnson, Sandy Koufax, Addie Joss, Cy Young, Mark Buehrle, and Roy Halladay)
Nine All-Star games
And this one i enjoyed the most:
Jim Bunning is the only pitcher to have struck out Ted Williams 3 times in a single game. Williams wrote in his autobiography, My Turn at Bat, that he was so mad that after the game he ripped off his uniform, buttons and all, and looked for a schedule to see when he would face the Tigers again, saying "I'll get you Bunning." On May 23, 1957, the next time the two met, Williams got his revenge, hitting two solo home runs off Bunning, although Bunning still got the win, 5-3.
Throw in 23 + years in government and you have a pretty interesting individual...

That is a great Williams story. I do remember reading that in that book years ago. Bunning is a pretty intersting character, and he was quite the competitor.
