David Cone - Well I sent to his address and I recevied back a typed letter stating that due to his volume of mail that he doesn't have time to sign but if I send $50 per card up to a total of 10 cards he would sign them and return them. He even asks for the return postage to be certified mail....

Looks like I will have to try ebay for this one for my 89 Topps.

At least I tried.

yep - same response i got a while back....scored a certified on ebay for under 20 bucks

As a Met fan that is sad to hear. He doesn't have time?! He had time to type that lousy letter though. That's pretty nuts he's asking for $50 too

Yeah I was pretty shocked when I read this letter. I just wonder how much fanmail he really gets especially since his auto is $50. I maybe could understand if it was $20 or so.

SLNoble13, that sucks, I am pretty sure I saw an 89 Topps Auto of him on ebay tonight. I was looking for 89 Topps but Cubs players. Just FYI...

That is unreal, maybe has to do with a signing contract with one of the companies, and that signing fee makes them hold value. Im guessing Steiner in this case, but it maybe Cone just trying to make some extra $$. At $10 he'd do 100x more autos, so either se dosen't want to sign, dosen't understand economics, or has a contract with someone.

I understand that fee is for charity. it's also probably designed to cut down on the volume of his fan mail.

I am offering a signed card from Cone that was acquired IP for $10. It is his 1992 Topps. Let me know if anyone is interested.

he has been doing this for a few year ..He gives the money to a foundation don't remember the name os it

he was great in person my son got a ball signed at the stadium last year he even added perfect game inscription!

Cone autos go fairly cheap on eBay, you'll easily find one in the $5 to $10 range. He does donate his fees to his foundation. Here is a scan from the back of his first certified auto from 1998 Donruss.
