I'm only a few cards into the list, but I really disagree with #45. That's one of the coolest baseball cards ever, not in the least ugly!

I agree. I think the term "ugly" should not have been used. Especially since he's talking about the player/poses and not the card design itself.

The Mossi should be # 1 and #30 Ledee is funny! #29 Kruk by itself isn't too funny, but when he adds his remark about biscuits & gravy....added to the picture....that makes it funny!

They forgot the 1970 Rico Petrocelli...

I think the '61 Maris is an iconic card, very cool looking I think. Still a cool article, reminds me of The Worthless Card Collection on Joesportsfan.

I must be missing something because I don't see them as ugly for the most part. I think for most of the pictures ball players have a lot of free time on their hands and a good sense of humor. Anyway they were fun to look at, even though many of the captions will make my "50 Ugliest Captions" list.

Yeah, I thought the wording was kind of harsh. If you see the picture of the guy who wrote the article though you'd understand. Young kid, maybe 22. Thinks he's a pretty boy.

These are great...I was specifically searching for what I believed to be a funny pic as a kid... #31, Joe Pettini!!!!! It was great to see him again!!! Of course I agree that "ugly" isn't the best word.. Perhaps, "goofy" would be more applicable..
BTW, Karl, you should be getting a very small gift in the mail in the next couple of days..

THanks for sharing this,
Pete

The Kruk one was funny but honestly I didn't even understand some of them such as the Lance Berkman one.

The caption implies he soiled himself. I'm assuming because of the strained look on his face. Pretty ridiculous imo ! What other expression would you expect from an athlete giving all he's got ?

Assuming the commentor is right I'd want that card for my funny card collection because "I like how Topps decided to Photoshop Berkman into a Cardinals uniform with a retired number".

This is HILARIOUS....I work at a school and have a collection of the Worst Baseball Cards of All Time with tinted glasses, moustache/mullet combos, and #14 Mario Mendoza made it on my wall....1980 Topps was a ROUGH year! THANKS SO MUCH for sharing this, its hilarious!

Pete -- Received it today and sent you pm of gratitude! Thank-you for your kindness, it was a total surprise! You're alright Pete, you're alright! :)

I took it the same way. When I read this I kind of reflected on my youth and how I looked and dressed in those days. Man, was I a goof! And my sisters with those pointy glasses and gogo boots? HA! Of course I didn't tell them that then nor do I tell them that now because they would've kicked my butt then and would kick my butt now. :)
I remember collecting the very cards he's talking about. Used to make fun the the players in a precarious or awkward position on the card and would make up our own taglines. (such as the Berkman)

The only ugly thing about that article were the captions written by the author.

I gotta agree. I thought a lot of the captions were lame. Also, some of the comments related to the the players name and had nothing to do with the pose on the card.

I was expecting actual ugly cards. How about the poor airbrushing jobs Topps did throughout the 70's? Or the out of focus photography of the early 80's Donruss and Fleer cards?
